I upgraded from a gtx 260 and i now have lower fps in world of warcraft then before. I bought the EVGA GTX570 classified. And in SW im getting 25-35 fps ???? I know this is not normal or shouldnt be for a card of this calibur.

I have tried all this and still same problem.  Can anyone shed some light on this plz?
Question Date: 09/24/2011
Q: I had evga gtx 260 and upgraded my video card to the gtx570 classified and although it is dx11 the fps is lower than my old video card. I only get 29-35fps in world of warcraft on max settings at 1920x1080 resolution. And i droped to 9FPS in a 25 man raid on a particular boss. Something is not right about this. Can you plz help.
Answer Date: 09/24/2011
A: If you have not done so already reload the drivers with the clean install option enabled under Custom after the drivers uncompress. If there is no change we have seen sometimes where the audio controller on the card for the HDMI port can cause issues. Please try the steps in this FAQ.

I would recommend setting your memory timings, voltages and frequency manually in the BIOS and then retesting. You would just need to find the recommended settings from the manufacturer and go into the BIOS and set them manually (Typically found under Frequency/Voltage control and Memory Feature.) Once they are set up I would recommend to run memtest86+ (memtest.org) for a few full passes to ensure the RAM is working properly as the 500 series cards can be very sensitive to correct ram settings.

If the problem persists, try monitoring your CPU usage under load under the performance tab in Task Manager. If the usage is hitting over 90% you could be experiencing a bottleneck from the CPU. In which case, overclocking the CPU would probably be the best solution.

Let us know the results of any testing.

Question Date: 09/24/2011
Q: There is no bois option to adjust my graphics card memory voltages and it still drops to 10fps after disabling the hd audio and downloading the lastest driver and doing a fresh install still the same problem!.
Answer Date: 09/24/2011
A: It is not the graphics card memory I was referring to but the system RAM, typically you would set this in your BIOS under Memory Timing Control to the RAM manufacturer's recommended specs (for example 9-9-9-24 @ 1.5v). Here is an example of how you set the memory timings on the X58 board - .

Try testing the card with some free programs we provide, I would recommend to monitor the temperature of the card and then run a GPU stress test for about 30 minutes with . You will want to "Enable Scanner" and also go in the settings and 'Enable On Screen Info", then Validate Changes and "Start GPU Stress Test". Please let us know if this reports any artifacts/crashes/errors and the max temperature reached under load.

Question Date: 09/24/2011
Q: I changed to latency times in the bios the voltage was alrdy correct. Then i ran the stress test came up with no artifacts and it got up to 77C. Ive monitored my cpu usage when in the game and from what i see its not having a bottle neck effect any idea of what might be the cause of the lower frame rates?
Answer Date: 09/24/2011
A: Ben,

Are you running the game in DirectX 11 or 9? Try changing the version in the games settings to see if that has any effect. Also, I would suggest downloading and running 3DMark11 so we can get a detailed look at how your system is running compared to similarly equipped ones. After running the benchmark you can provide us the URL to your results and we may be able to glean some useful information from this.

Question Date: 09/25/2011
Q: I am running World of Warcraft on DX11 engine. I know the game was based off the DX9 and they just recently integrated the DX11 into it. I changed the game world of warcraft to DX9 and it droped by 10fps. I just dont under stand why this game would have lower fps going from a gtx260 to a gtx570 classified. When there are alot of people in screen or when druing a 25man raid encounter druing combat. I have attached a screenshot of what im talking about.
Answer Date: 09/25/2011
A: Dear Ben,

If you have not adjusted this as of yet. We would recommend adjusting higher multisampling within the game to see if this too help you resolve your issues.

WoW is more cpu demandng and what your experiencing is exactly that gaining nothing after an obvious big upgrade of a GPU, sometimes overclocking can solve this or if its and old architecture outdated or budget CPU, upgrading could fix this problem aswell.

your i7 920 is acutally a good cpu, if your willing you can save some money and try overclocking it around 3.4-3.8GHz and you should see some improvments.

No computer on this planet can run run World of Warcraft in a major city on a high population server at 60+ FPS when all the people load. There are so many people there that network lag and CPU lag show up mostly due to WoW only utilizing two cores.

Yeah, if you could OC your cpu to about 3.0, that'd be awesome. But if not, yeah get like a I7-940 or something with atleast 3.0 (Preferably 3.2 or higher).

25-30 fps in Stormwind is actually normal performance for the game engine and your card.  I seriously doubt there is anything at all wrong with your system.  The only way to tell if you are having low FPS in WoW is to go to an area that is not populated at all.  Your FPS should shoot up to anywhere from 2-3x what you see in a city.

    I have 2 GTX 580s and a 2600k.

    Orgrimmar/SW with heavy population: 40-75fps
    Orgrimmar/SW with normal/light population: 80-110fps
    Questing: 130-200fps

WoW is poorly optimized for modern systems.  The only thing you can do is reduce the quality of your shadows, disable sunshafts, and enable DX11.  You should notice an improvement in performance.

EDIT: I wanted you to see it just to really drive home my point.  This is with 2 superclocked GTX580s and a 2600k running at 4.3Ghz.  All settings are as high as they can go, 120hz refresh rate, DirectX11, 285.27 drivers with "prefer maximum performance" for WoW.

Look at the GPU usage and FPS and you will see that you are well within the normal range:

This is with no Add-ons enabled as well...  Add-ons will reduce your framerate... especially ones like carbonite or questhelper.

Thank you for the reply. I do get a consistent 60FPS everywhere else in world of warcraft. Its only when in sw OR when in a 25man raid it drops on the seed phase on Ragnaros to 15FPS. But in grp out of combat goes back to 60FPS. I guess ill just deal with it till Diablo 3.

I wouldn't expect Diablo III to be a whole lot better lol.  Blizzard isn't known for making games that really use the GPU.

Part of the issue as well is two options that you can safely turn down a bit to improve your overall FPS. One is the 'sun shafts' and the other is 'shadows'. Turn those down a notch from the top end and you should also see some improvements.

As stated before in this thread, and many others, the game itself is very CPU intensive. Anything over 3.0GHz improves the rendering time in populated areas. Since Blizzard isn't very good at optimizing games and using the GPU more than the CPU this will be a constant problem regardless of which game they make. Something to do with them trying to always be compatible with the systems running them. They don't want to lock people out of purchasing their product so you'll see similar results and issues with Starcraft and Diablo.

I've discovered over the time I've been building for WoW gamers that an SSD is almost as good an upgrade as a good graphics card.  While the load hits will still occur they will occur MUCH faster as WoW does alot of HD loading and CPU work.

From the pictures you can see he is running at Fair Settings which is why he is getting such good framerates.
I can maintain 40+ in Major cities by simply lowering my Shadow Detail to High instead of Ultra. The Ultra Setting simply makes shadows appear on EVERYTHING regardless of Distance and the High setting only shows Shadows on the Objects and players close to you. I cant see a difference except it raises my framerate in cities by like 25% or more.

The i7-2600k build I did for a friend in Pennsylvania is getting about 60-80fps in Stormwind generally. We have disabled shadows and sunshafts though but everything else is pretty much on ultra for the settings. Since the population decline on some of the servers it's gotten better over time but if there are about 50+ people in one general area he'll drop to about 30-40fps most often.

He's using a GTX560Ti SC DS like mine.

Great info. Do you experience slight micro stuttering in WoW at all?

I applied to this once already but it didn't seem to take...

Anyway, I did not experience stuttering at all but I noticed a slight flicker on character portraits and the little buttons at the bottom for the character.  That was all really.

High population servers will give you a lower FPS in the major cities. There is no computer in existence that can handle it considering WoW is only optimized for dual cores.

I don't play WoW anymore, but when I did I had a very similar problem, and I noticed that GPU & CPU usage was really low considering what was going on in the game. Even out in the open with no one around FPS was in the mid 20s and CPU & GPU usage wasn't even in the %30s. Lets just say I tried everything from a fresh install of WoW, to a fresh install of windows, never got better, got tired of it and quit.

Check your CPU & GPU load, I'm curious to know if its the same as what I had.

my 2 580's with a i7 at 4.2 wouldnt do 60 in sw, they limit it by a bit. dont worry about sw fps as long as in raids its good. also there use to be a water glitch that if you put it 1 from max you would get good frame rates but on max it destroyed any system. try taking it back 1 notch and also make sure you are running in dx11, you get worse frame rate in dx9
