Ok, it got much worse, it now locks up at the XP loading screen. I can't even get into Windows except through safemode and even then safemode doesnt last very long before it locks up as well.

RainStryke Wha!? That's wayyy too low. The memory that the OP is using has a latency of 9 (that is all I could find on it), and it is rated for 1.50v. As I have mentioned in a few other posts, it may be the low voltage RAM, regardless of the fact that it passed Memtest86.

I remember back with the 790i's were out they never had RAM that low of voltage, the lowest was 1.6v i'm sure it's his RAM causing the problem unless it's on his motherboards support list. But it is not: http://www.evga.com/support/motherboard/ I would either try to find someone selling older DDR3 RAM around 2.0v or move over to windows 7. If you know someone with a .edu e-mail or if you have one, you can get Windows 7 student edition for cheap.

will do, I'll see if I can return my current memory and get some higher voltage RAM. edit: Can't seem to find original packaging after doing some room rearrangement. Oh well, the Patriot's actually a nice piece of hardware but I don't have a system that can use it. I guess I'll have to just sell it off cheap on craigslist or something.

If you can find the Kingston RAM in post # 42, it should work well. IMHO, the RAM that jhatc1 links in post # 41 will work also. Although it is rated for 1.65v (which would probably work), you can bump it to 1.70v if necessary.

@ myoldid... Your post#40 memory was rated at 1600mhz and in post #42 memory was rated 1800mhz. But, if can get those, get them If not do what VistaHead recommends. Jim

If you get 27 more posts and apply for access to the EVGA Marketplace I have found a members in the forum that are selling the type of RAM you need. It's a 4X1GB kit that runs at 1.7v.
