4930K-E
Stepping 4

4.5GHz Test
KBoost Disabled
Vcore Offset +50

Right now I'm on 5 of 10 IBT, maximum 14GB memory, 45 minutes in.

It's riding at 1.270v at load; highest temperature I've seen on cores is 62c.

Hoping this makes 10 for 10.

You will be fine, even if you fail you can go +55 and that might raise the temps 1-2c tops.

You are still very conservative with that voltage and your temps.

I passed; not sure if I should tweak or just let it sit. I need to run 3d Mark and do some gaming to see if it's stable.

    It was 1.270v at load.

The G19 LCD is great for that isn't it, I have a custom display for AIDA64 in it as well.

Well; that was too good to be true.

I rebooted my machine numerous times -- no issues. I put it to sleep, made something to eat, woke it up--instantly shut down. Now it won't boot on the settings I had; I upped offset to +55 and +60; nothing.

What the heck? I'm back at BIOS defaults; only way I could get rig to start up.

It freezes halfway through Windows 7 start up.

Try turning on K-boost with your previously stable settings.

This is the situation I warned you about in the other thread.

I just saw that; turned on k-boost and went back to previous settings.

I was able to boot up; rebooted twice--no issues.

I just put machine to sleep; it woke right up this time.

I'm guessing the problem was that k-boost was turned off. Should I do another IBT?

    On another note;

What would I need to do to hit 4.6? Jump to 46 and maybe up my offset?

To go for 4.6, you would likely need +100 for starters and might need a little more to pass IBT.

Keep a close eye on your temps and move up +5 at a time.

That k-boost situation is quite common in my experience.

Nice job, ges. Seems to be a very decent 6-core!

It's running amazingly great--going to let it run this week and if it holds true I will start tinkering with the 780's this weekend.

I ran some BF4 for about 40 minutes lsat night and it was great. I didn't hit over 40c on cores or GPU's.

Water is holding solid for me and the highest volt was 1.270 and at idle it sits at 1200 with 0.894v.

This new AIDA64 applet I made is AWESOMe for monitoring. :)

Re: LiquidKhaos OC Specs and Details 2014/03/10 14:54:45 (permalink)
    Guys,

You are probably already well aware of this, but perhaps worth mentioning. Back a few months ago a forum member made a post, showing concern about a large voltage spike he was measuring  on the vcore, upon booting the system. A momentary spike, of like between 1.5-1.6v.
This caused some concern across the forum here, and resulted in a pretty long thread about this. At that time, there was no K-Boost option in the bios, it just did it...
EVGA , when they did comment on it in that same thread, stated it was a " feature" built into the bios, and other boards did it as well. I guess that "feature" was a momentary bump up of the vcore, to help when power is first hitting the CPU to post.

Well, several stated they would prefer not to have that feature automatically. This resulted in EVGA adding it as an option in the bios, with bios 2.07 calling it K-Boost, to allow the user to disable it. The bios comes with it enabled by default. So they at least give the user the option, to have this momentary power spike or not to their cpu when starting their system. Kudos to EVGA for responding to the community in this way!

Again, this may be just old news to everyone, just wanted to be sure you guys understood exactly what K-Boost was doing. I doubt anyone really knows, and there is probably no evidence to date, of this harming a cpu, but the spike is there and at least folks know what they get when they have it enabled...

Myself, I prefer not to use it , and so far have been able to do so successfully with no issues, my system posts and boots just fine, and sleeps and resumes from sleep just fine. So as long as I can run satisfactorily without it, I will.

gesweck, way to go on that overclock! 6 Core Ivy's arent' the easiest when it comes to that!
Great job on that water cooling as well!

I agree and undestand. The concern I have is that I couldn't get it to boot after it went to sleep with +50/55/60 offset. I'm afraid to get mine at 4.5 without kboost I may need +80 or higher offset. That's going to my vcore well above 1.3. If it takes monetary pop of power at start; then I can live with that because my volts are well below 1.3 at load--just screams longevity for me.

Now that I know what it's stable at; I could play with it and see how much offset I really need for no k-boost.

I look at it this way, I either use K-boost and have a momentary spike, raise the offset Vcore and consistently have more Vcore and temps, or go fixed voltage and always run max voltage.

Based on what I hear from my benchmarking friends, heat kills processors, not voltage.  Yes, voltage creates heat but it does not do it instantly.  Many folks run 1.5-1,6v for sustained periods without issue, as long as the temperatures are kept in check, and more radical folks can run 1.7+.

Unless we have a rash of CPU failures due to K-boost, I am happier with K-boost than my other alternatives.

I "only" got a 1.4V spike when checking with my DMM. I cannot say I am afraid of using k-boost, but it feels a bit fishy.
