I have two SR2's. The first was RIMA'd back to EVGA recently for this reoccurent problem.
I didnt want to wait for the board to come back and wanted to be sure of a 100% new MOB so I bought a new one, put it in yesterday.
I have the same problem as before, new MOB didnt help just took a alot of work to swap out.
Problem is an LSI 9269-8i RAID controller card PCIe x8, in slot nubmer one (one card 6990 in slot 7, others disabled). When the MOB starts up it never sees the RADI card, it doesnt show, gets stuck on something like " cant find boot device instert and press any key to continue" But if I plug a SSD into the MOB can can run Windows just fine. I disassembled any RAID option in SR2 BIOS, I turned off e/SATA and set whats left to AHCI. By the way, the boot priority never shows anything but the CD ROM drive and a USB device, never sees the card. The RAID card uses an LSI program for pre-boot configuration called "WebBIOS" you can press cntrl + H on start up and it will allow you to configure the drives before getting to the OS. I tried this but can never access the card's BIOS or control software of any kind. Used a spare SSD directly into the board and ran Windows. Once running cant find the RAID card in the Windows device panel. While in windows useing the spare SSD, I tried using the LSI configure program called MegaRAID, that program is unable to find the LSI card as well.
Tha card heats up, and gets power, I'm using all the MOB plugs and have tested them w/meter and reseated them. THe MOB is brand new, no shorts works with a SSD plugged directly into the board.
Tried the RAID card in another computer, hit Ctrl + H and could get into Web BIOS, so the card may be ok.
Tried slot two in SR2 no better.
When this computer was running in the past (on my RMA'd SR2 ) the RAID card worked in slot one best (actually only) and was fine. For a while on the original MOB I ran Windows, used the Windows GUI software from LSI to configure and run RAID zero drives, no plroblems. I have not touched the previously working drives or their poer supply. It quit working after I rebuilt the case. I RMA'd that board and bought this new one....no deal.

Hello Fellow LSI Friend. Have you tried upgrading your Motherboards bios to the latest version? If so, The next thing to try would be to upgrade your firmware in your LSI card. Some of the newer ones are pretty bad so i would look for one that is from december of last year. The newer version i use have caused problems but you could try the newest version to see if it does work for you. Try out the Firmware and lemme know what happens so i can try to come up with some ideas to help you troubleshoot!

it's not the LSI card that is the problem, it is the mobo bios

Hmmm, My LSi 9260 8i worked in slot 1 and now works ok in slot 7. Nothing extraordinary was made to make it happen...I disabled RAID on ICH10R and I also disabled Marvel Sata 6 controller (my cd-rom hooked to it was causing BSOD with LSi card installed - now it is hooked to ICH 10R sata 3 port and it works OK). I also installed newest drivers and mega storage manager yesterday - no problem. I use firmware from ~ 11 march 2011. One more thing - this controller is very hot - I measured its temp and it was 105 Celsius on radiator when rebuilding the array. Such temperature was causing my drivers to drop from array. I had to place one 120mm fan blowing onto chipset and now the temperature is bellow 60 Celsius degrees when array rebuilding or during patrol read. Lowering chipset temp. was crucial to LSi card - what is more interesting when controller was idle everything was working well...till some heavy HDD's activity was occurring...

that's the thing with evga bios and lsi raid cards, sometimes they work, and sometimes for months on end they do not, evga and lsi do not play nice together always at all

Thanks for your suggestions. I flashed the MOB to the newest BIOS. I took everything out of the SATAIII slots and disabled the controller in SR2 BIOS. I disabled any extra SATA funtions and just use AHCI. There is no MOB RAID enabled. Turned off the eSATA. Left USB 3.0 on. Otherwise its entirely default SR2 BIOS. I put the CDROM drive in a regular SATA slot. No deal still. If I look for the LSI card in windows, it shows that its there but says it cant be accessed or started. If I use the windows MegaRAID Storage manager to look for the card it says it cant find the server. ( I use the IP address 127.0.0.1 which the LSI tech guys told me to use by the way). Windows shows a driver installed for the LSI card, its from around Oct 2010. If I try and install any newer useing windows to update the driver, Windows wont do it, says windows has detected the best driver already. Should be ok though. Finnally the LSI firmware. Here is were I think the problem lies. If you recall my card did work at one time for a few weeks. The heat issue I think is a big problem, I bet the card got too hot and messed up the firmware somehow andit needs re-flashing. So I cant get the flash to work however. I put the MegaCLi64 app in a folder on the desktop along with the .rom file mr2108fw.rom which is from around June 2011. I disabled UAC control in Win 7 by sending the slider to its lowest security setting and rebooting. But when I click on the MegaCLi utility, it just flashed a black window up which looks like a Command Prompt (which is what I want), and it disappears instantly. Any guidance for this problem?

Installation: ============= Use MegaCLI to flash the SAS controllers. MegaCLI can be downloaded from the support and download section of www.lsi.com. Command syntax: MegaCli -adpfwflash -f mr2108fw.rom -a0 ============= Start - Run - navigate to megaCLi folder and run above command syntax (remember to change "mr2108fw.rom" to your file name.

Yes, I update my LSI with the latest flash according to KONAn above. I then updated the LSI drivers and used Storage Manager to set up the arrays. But, I still can't access WebBIOS. I also downgraded the SR2 bios to A54..

I gave up on the LSI card and removed it. IT gets hot and I decided that it must have gotten too hot or what ever and died. I gave up on it after a year. I bought a new Arecea card last week, it's an ARC-1880ix-12 ($800) I put it into slot one and also tried two, again the SR-2 MOB will not see it! The red lights are on all slots. The new Areca card gets hot, it beeps a few brief times during the MOB start up but all lights are off once Win7 has started via a separate 60GB drive plugged into a SATAII slot (which always works fine) The SATA III are disabled, the eSATA are disabled. The PCIE slot boot priority is set to match the Acera card's slot (usually the first) SR-2 firmware is A56 newest. So, I decided I'll install the driver disk on the little 60 Gb SSD drive plugged into the MOB and see what happens. It installs the web browser version of the Acera. I ran the windows Areca set up program and it cant detect the controller. I have tried pressing F6 and Tab during start up but can never get into the Areca BIOS set up program. I went to the SR-2 BIOS and dissabled the quick boot and allowed it to show all the processese as it runs through them, I never see the expected Areca prompts. What a pain, what is wrong with this board? this is the second brand new MOB for this problem. Other people on this board arre running this card.

Maybe "memory low gap" option in bios will help. Also try A49 bios. It works perfectly with my LSi 9260.

Well, I tried A49. I tried to disabled everything in the BIOS possible until it would not start and then backed off. EVGA said in a help ticket that they don't guarantee RAID cards will work (thanks), and they suggested I remove all devices possible "to see if you may be running out of option ROM space". All I've got plugget in is the Areca in slot one and a 6990 in slot 7. They way its built, it is diffifult to switch slots, but I could do it if I had to test it. Does anyone think it really matters?

I spent the whole day again today fiddeling and trying things. Set memory low gap to 3G. Tried 1880ix in all slots. Tried an old 8800 graphics card and the 1880ix but even in this lowest PCIe configuration nothing. I took out half the RAM sticks, leaving 24Gb total thinking this would perhaps free up some capability. I went back to A56, and have everything dissabled......but have never yet seen the Arecia 1880 BIOS pop up, always straight to windows. Is this project a gonner? Should I scrap it and transfer everything to a Supermicro like an X8DTH-6F (dual Xeon 1366 7 PCI-E 2 slots running at 8x)? Here are some pics of the parts, and the machine. You can see that the cards are connected by riser cables, these are ones used by bitcoin guys with the 12 power source portion of the cable cut off and power redirected from the PSU directly rather than through the MOB. Apparently this helps with overloading the MOB PCI-E lanes for 12 power with 6990's. Ive got three. The third 6990 recieves its power from and additional PSU. I have tried the cards plugged directly into the MOB, this does not seem to be the issue with my RAID card troubles. This is my office setup, and the reason for the SR-2 to begin with. I have 8 Dell U3011's running on a Matrox card in a differnt computer now. But I need to run many virtual machines at the same time, each separated from the other, I'm aradiologist and read for many hospitals at night simoultaneously. I really need the power of thr dual Xeons, but if the SR2 wont run the RAID and the 6990's than the Supermicro could be next. Any ideas?
