I just found that the motherboard P55 LE has 2 sets of holes around the CPU.
Does this mean I could use an LGA775-cooler on an LGA1155-processor as is the i5?
Or would this not fit, or if it does, is it perhaps not recommended?

Greetings.

Yes if you have an older cooler that doesn't have 1155 adaptor you can use the 775 mounting braket.

But some 775 cooler backplates did not fit well...

I've tried the Artic Cooling Freezer Pro Rev.01 for LGA775..
It does not have a good fitting....

Yeah, the 775 holes on the P55 boards are slightly askew, like the cooler has to be rotated about 10 degrees or so. It's probably just fine for most coolers, but some may have issues.

But it doesn't affect how the cooler fits on the processor or anything?
Like the size and the contact between the heatsink and the processor?

I mounted my Xigmatec 775 cooler on my board using the holes for 775. I believe they now offer an adapter. I had to mod the backplate to make it fit, and it sits at an angle. The contact plate on the cooler is larger than the i5 so it makes 100% contact. It took me awhile to install it, but it works great
