The Optimus should be a complete water block with an active rear plate as well. I'm not sure how much more the active plate will do considering their back plate for the 3090 already helps keep the temps pretty low. But if they offer it I'm getting it.

Last I read they said that they weren't sure if they were going to do an active backplate because in their testing the temperatures were practically identical to their real heatsink backplate.

From what I have heard from other users...the optimus backplates on the ftw3 and strix blocks yields thermals on par with the ek watercooled backplates

Agreed- over on a watercooling forum I hang out at the Optimus passive backplate seems within measuring accuracy of the active backplates. Less to leak and they look amazing.

So, I got a 3080 Ti through the Newegg shuffle (3967 SKU). It arrived today, but I haven’t had much time to play with it. I won’t really be able to overclock it unless/until I block it. Anyway, what are your thoughts on the 3090 KP vs this card? I’m using it primarily for gaming at 1440p, but thinking of getting a 4K monitor. I ask primarily because I entered the KP HC queue before I was selected in the shuffle. The 3080 Ti is 2-3% less of a card than the 3090 from everything I’ve seen/read, but it does outperform the 3090 by just a couple of FPS in some games. Part of me still wants the 3090 because I’ve never owned a top tier card, so I haven’t removed myself from the queue yet.

A 3090 is a titan like class card. It will work on games, but both 3080 and 3080ti can over perform it at 1440p, especially depending on the rest of your system. If you are budget "reasonable" (meaning looking for bang for the buck), it doesn't make sense... If it's for the pleasure of the highest tier, and the money is fine... Go ahead, it is an amazing card. But better know what you sign up for. The memory is just too much for any game for the next 5 years maybe (I don't even use 8GB on triple 1440p full quality on iRacing). It has huge overclock potential... So up to you, but the 3080ti is an amazing card (expensive too but not as much as the 3090). Keep in mind the test you are looking also for that 2~3% are mostly FE cards... The KP is another workhorse, it clock higher too. To keep in mind (it is binned by EVGA). Anyway my2cents... But it depends only on what you look for... And for me it looks amazing.

Active means water flow- none of the stock plates or hybrid systems have active backplates. I only know of a single active backplate, and it's been equaled by heatsinks on a stock plate, and the Optimus passive (as I remember off the top of my head).

Yeah this is rediculous, a product should have a few hundred of something before it launches if not more
The Kingpin version is not a large volume model. the FTW3 and XC3 would be. I mean how many PC gamers one have $2000 to pay for a kingpin. And two the more they have the less likely we are getting vary high quality 3090 chips. I would rather have lower stock and a better bin chip.
Not trying to piss anyone off but I have two in hand lol.
Yeah, that probably triggered a few folks. lol Are you running them individually in separate builds, or are they SLI'd?

Haven't owned any Evo drives longer than maybe 2018. Will have to wait and see if they failed before any of my Pro drives.

I ordered a 1 TB 980 during Prime Day. Haven't installed it yet either. What's crazy is that the last gen of Samsung SSDs is they were like twice as expensive as this gen for some reason. I paid over $300 for a 1 TB 860 Pro, and that's just a normal SATA SSD.

The 970 Pro was a truly premium product because it used enterprise grade MLC...all the 980 Pro/Evo use TLC with an SLC cache...2bit MLC is false advertising because your still writing 3bits per cell...both are still very good drives though....I use a quad 970 pro raid0 array for my boot disk and pcie4.0 m.2 sticks with a phison controller for virtual machines
