Hello, After reading a lot of reviews, I decided to buy Evga 1080 Ti FTW3. But I have a problem with current temps. Room temp is 29 Celcius. My case have a decent airflow options. I have 1x back and 2x top exhaust fans. 2x 140mm Noctua intake fans on front. Cpu Temp is 40 on idle and 55 Celcius on load. My GPU is 52-55 Celcius on idle. GPU Temp is 82-88 Celcius in games. I enabled auto fan option on curve. What am I doing wrong? I see people are playing games with 60 degrees on YouTube. Are you guys doing something special to make it lower?

muratgaygusuz Room temp is 29 Celcius.
Well with a videocard that generates 280W of heat by default you really need some good case airflow, and with a room temperature like that it's not weird for the card to get hot. But I know that the FTW3 can stay below 70°C at such temperature when the fans are turned up a lot higher. Possibly you should try using the agressive fan curve or use a custom one with higher fan speeds than default. A friend for example at 29°C ambient can keep the FTW3 in SLI at 76°C max for the top card at almost max fan speed, with the bottom card sticking to 66°C with a bit lower fan speed, using the agressive fan curve. So it should be possible to keep those temps a lot lower than you're seeing. I've even benchmarked my FTW3 inside a case with 4x 200mm fans at 25-27°C ambient and at 100% fan the GPU had a hard time getting to 60°C By the way, on the default fan curve the fans do not kick in until a certain temperature (I don't know how much exactly) that may explain the higher idle temperatures. Also it could be that the card is not clocking back to idle state causing more heat, because of multi monitor and high refreshrate combinations etc. My FTW3 normally idles around 28-33°C (GPU Core) depending on the room temp of about 21 to 26°C with 240-645Mhz~, while the fans are turned off.

Just tried aggressive fan curve as you said. GPU temp was 78-82 Celcius with it. It was loud and I couldn't even hear the game. What is safe with this cards? I mean if I play game with 85 Celcius, will it damage? What's the safe limit? Is everyone playing games with loud fan noises from case?

More heat can lower the lifespan of the card, but it's hard to say by how much, generally you would like the GPU to stay below 75-80°C if possible, but this range should be fine to work with too. This post shows the temperature limits of the 1080Ti FTW3: https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2687408 And yes, dual-ball bearing fans may sound a bit loud at first, however the noise may decrease overtime, while sleeve bearing and it's counterparts used on many other GPU brands usually get louder the longer they are used, and have more risk to dying. I guess it doesn't bother me as much as my own CPU cooler with 3000rpm noctua fans is heard through concrete walls. so the FTW3 isn't as obvious to me. Edit: Also another thing you could do is decrease the power target below 100% to decrease the amount of watts the GPU draws, yes this may result in lower performance and clock speeds, but it will also reduce the heat and noise, another thing is an airconditioner :/. I don't know what your case looks like but the 1080Ti really likes some good airflow.

If you are really concerned about temps and noise, pick up the hybrid kit. Yes it is a few extra bucks, but it is well worth it. Many members have done it, and the difference it makes is massive. I am personally thinking of doing it myself as I am sick and tired of my folding rig sitting at almost 80C.

Sadly we dont know any information about EVGA'S Hybrid kit for the FTW3. Maybe they wont relase a hybrid kit for the FTW3... No info about this..

There are other hybrid kits available. Kraken G12 with your choice of cooler, Arctic 120 or 140, etc.

I have a Coolermaster HAF case, and my temps are around 60-65 degrees during heavy FO4 sessions. It's big though, I have three 8" fans, and two 120mm fans driving the airflow. If you have a small case, its going to generate more heat, faster, unless you have a perfect cooling setup for air. The only alternative to a bigger case, is going liquid.

Sadly i think it looks a bit ugly, and that 8 mm fan i think its not very good for the vrm's, that fan cant really cool it down good.

I would be a bit surprised if they are pulling 60 on an are based cooler. The temps are a bit high though. It might be worth talking to support to see if they feel it's anything to be worried about long term but other then the room getting warmer I personally wouldn't be that worried.

Actually, it was possible for me to keep the card around or below that temperature with an ambient of 26°C~ using a power target of 117% under heavy benchmarking, aslong the fans all three were on 100%. The GPU ran into a max spike of 59°C while the rest of the sensors sat between 49-59°C: And this were the results with an ambient temperature of 27,4°C~, the GPU mostly between 58-60°C with a few spikes to 63°C, the rest of the sensors sticked to about 53-65°C: Pictures aren't very clear because the websites I published my review on are a bit too much 'mobile first'. But you'll see the max reported values if you look closely. The case has a reasonable room to breathe but is still under a desk where the heat gets somewhat stuck. Review and pictures of case are found here: https://tweakers.net/productreview/161507/evga-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-ftw3-gaming.html

It's an HAF 922. I bought it in 2010 so it's out of production now. I believe the HAF 932 Advanced is it's successor at this point.

The HAF 922, is a mid-tower however, both HAF 932 models are big towers (aka full towers) But because they are in a different tower segment I don't think the 932 Advanced is the successor of the HAF 922. There's also the full tower models the HAF X and HAF Stacker 935, and the mid tower HAF XM (the mid tower of the HAF X) But it looks like Cooler Master has pretty much deprecated the HAF cases in favor for the Mastercase versions, because only the HAF X/XB Evo and 912 Advanced are still being sold here. Hopefully they will bring new life into the HAF series sometime, they are rigid functional cases with space and airflow. Mastercases look decent but I'd rather have the ability for a sidepanel fan, a completely flat top and a frontpanel that sticks out at the front, but that's personal. I own both the HAF 922 and the HAF XM, the HAF 922 is really a dust collector because of less dust filters, but because it's more compact and didn't have so many filters I noticed my old 780Ti stayed a few degrees cooler in the HAF 922 versus the XM when it's clean.

I'm running into the same issue, just bought a TI 1080 FTW3, as soon as a game load the gpu, and gpu1 temp jump up to 90C and stay there with the gpu fan going all out. The ambient temp in the room is 23C in an open case setting with plenty of air flow. There is no reason that this card should be hitting those temps right out of the box.

Check the thermal goop! Check the heatsink contact on the gpu die. Either the thermal past is non exsistsnt or the cooler is wrspped and not making good contact on the gpu die.

NO! Evga don't care even if you install a water cooler on the card. If you need to RMA the card at some point, as long as you return the card in original condition without damage from you, your good! So no voiding warranty removing the cooler. There fine with you changing the thermal paste.
