Hey guys, I just wanted to say thanks for making my first Chimp Challenge so awesome! You guys are a great team, and to show my appreciation (and to celebrate our victory) I made some Jade Monkey wallpapers for anyone that wants them!

Click the link below the preview image to download the fullsize versions (1920x1200).

Also, I still have the raw photoshop files, so if you want a different background color, or different background image altogether, I can make one rather easily!

Enjoy!

Not to crap on it, but that is not the official Jaded Monkey. The one you see around and in my avatar right now has been used since the competition was first run. Anything made to celebrate our great victory really should include the official one.

Yeah well I don't have a model of that and I'm not sure I could make one. I suppose you could say it's more of a representation...

Becides, I'm not gonna lie, that picture of the jaded monkey has always kinda creeped me out

Sure! I figured that was a pretty common resolution.

Besides, any larger size and it would have taken days to for my system to render it!

So, when do you get the SLI 480s? That should speed up your rendering.

Actually, with the program that I use (and most other rendering programs) the CPU does something like 95% of the work. But I plan on getting a Phenom II X6 here soon so that will help a LOT!

    But that's not to say I wouldn't like a 480 or 2 someday

Have you seen what that Design Garage thing can do? Man, if you could get your rendering software to use the GPU like it does, things would be done a lot faster.

Yeah, I love messing with design garage!

They're converting this very software to use GPUs, but it's still in Alpha and very buggy. I did manage to get it to work once though, and it ran on both my 275 and 250 (simultaneously!) and it was wicked fast compared to my lil' tri-core!

What do you use? SideFX seems to be less than interested in getting Mantra, the Houdini renderer, to use GPU's. Even after suggesting it on the forums people said GPU's would be bad at ray tracing and realistic rendering. LOL! Makes me consider buying Refractive Software's Octane or something similar.

Good job btw, very nice lighting and materials on the monkey.

Yes it is! I was messing with something in Blender right after the CC ended, and that's how I had the idea to make these wallpapers!

I use Luxrender because it's free and always will be, and that's the renderer they're converting it to work with GPUs (ATI and Nvidia)! IMHO once Luxrender GPU is done, it will be much better than Octane or even Nvidia's Optix (design garage engine). The best part about it Luxrender GPU is that it can use all GPUs in a system at the same time on a single image, even if they're completely different and not SLI'd!

Thanks for the complement! I used studio lighting HDRi maps for the lighting. For the materials, I actually plugged in the properties of Jade and tweaked it so it's green! So this truly is a 100% Jade monkey!
