Purchased my 3080 xc3 ultra on 9/17/2020.  Dealt with random crashes due to the card boosting abnormally (gpu clock swinging from from 1800-2010mhz constantly seemed to be the issue).  Drivers seemed to fix this for a while, but now I'm seeing crashes again, and total weirdness in general with the card boosting.

I'm now running into the same issue over and over with Metro Exodus, where the card will boost past it's rated frequencies (no overlock, totally stock) and it crashes out on me after playing for anywhere from 1-10 minutes.  Is repeatable over and over.

IF I drop my gpu clock -100mhz,  it seems to run absolutely fine, and the card doesn't boost really out of range.  Is there a fix for this or do I have a faulty card?  I have followed all of the steps in pinned thread for gpu issues.

Also, is there a bios that's known to work best for this card?  EVGA precision updated my bios when I downloaded 1.1.17, but that didn't help anything.

Precision X1 does not update the bios.  It updates the firmware for the RGB lighting.  The only way to update the bios is to flash a different bios file using NVFlash.

That being said, I'm unaware of a better bios for the stock 3080 XC3 Ultra.  For those of us who hybridized our stock 3080, there's a better bios in the unverified bios section of TechPowerUp.

Out of curiosity, what are your voltage levels when the card boosts to 2010MHz?  And what PSU are you using (and how old)?  Given that your card works fine until the frequencies begin to fluctuate quickly, it could be that your power supply is having difficulty keeping up with the voltage requested by the card.  At 2010MHz, the card is likely requesting somewhere around 1.01V, while at 1800mHz the card is likely only looking for 0.85V.  Maybe the PSU can't supply the transient power needed to increase ~0.2V quickly enough.

I can do some tests in a bit and report back.  I'm using an evga supernova g2 1600w.  Power supply is a bit older, about 6 years.  I've noticed my mv going as far as 1.1mv.

I do have the hybrid kit in my possession.  Just want to figure out this issue before I put it on, in case I have to RMA the card.

To be noted..I have been playing with the fans on 100% at all times (to keep the card as cool as possible, just preference).

Would this cause abnormal behavior for the card?  Maybe it thinks it has thermal headroom or something and decides to boost really weird?

I will benchmark after work today and screenshot my voltage/frequencies for analysis.

You can see, the frequency stays very stable for a while, then out of nowhere it will jump to a much higher frequency and crash my game.

I've attached screenshots to show that it jumped from around 1785 to around 2010 instantly.

Voltage draw looks like it was 1.062V @ 2025 mhz

Anyone have any input on the screenshots?
