S.Homen Yeah, I have the latest drivers. I updated the drivers as soon as I installed the card. Damn it, I've had this card for less than a day and I already have to RMA it. dont feel bad i had to RMA mine too because it was artifacts the first day RMAd it and took a week tog et back because of supply but supply is stable now so good luck!

The hottest my GPU EVER got was 102 degrees celcius, becuase on accident I had the fan speed set at 60%, because I was just on the internet. 10 Minutes into the game, I realized what was happening and I immediatley exited the game. Phew, at least it didn't start artifacting and get over the 105 threshold. Also, this was bad timing for this to happen. One of my fans on the side of my Stacker 830 Gargoyle edition case stopped working. Since then if I game with Just Cause 2 in 3d, My Gpu is being used 98% always with my fan pre set to 85% and my GPU never passes 82 degrees celcius. RMA that card immediatley. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 bucks....

Called EVGA and asked them about it, and the fella said I should be expecting up to high 90s but anything over 100 is the cutoff. So he said it's my case and lack of airflow. So He told me to put a household fan next to the case and ckeck it out that way, if it goes down significantly, it's my case, if not. Then RMA the card. This is a $200 case, bastard better not be the problem. Heh.

Perhaps put fans in that case that are designed to move more air if it is? I don't have that case so I can't really say, but looking at it, it doesn't look like it would have bad airflow (especially if you change out the fans)

It sounds like its just your fan profile thats boinked. If its always at 42, then jumps to 90+% all of a sudden thats borked. It should ramp up with temps. My fan profile starts at 40, and as I game goes up to 55%, but never more then that and my temps never go above 82C while gaming.

So if it was the case, wouldn't those cards be facing the same issue that I'm facing now?

It sounds like you have a bad card. I have a coolermaster stacker case with tons of airflow and I still get high temps! that is 2 120 MM fans blowing directly on it and then the top 2 120 MM fans sucking out the hot air and it still gets to 82 degrees celcius with the fan at 85%. If I didn't have thos fans there, this card would have melted my house down by now.... Evga Lucked out that I have good airflow, hopefully for them 1 less RMA...

Based on the artifacts, bad card...I'd call back and report them, get an RMA for it. Ask for Cross-shipping, perhaps...might put a hold on your CC for the cost of the card until you get your bad one back to them, but at least you'd get a card quicker.

Decided to follow through with the EVGA Tech Support guy's suggestion, it still reached 105 degrees, and now I'm see artifacts in Crysis Warhead. This sucks. :(

Well, I had to have that household fan on full blown really loud to get the card to stay around 95-98 degrees. But a fan that big pulling that much air should not have that card come even close to 95 degrees. Oh well, here's to hoping my next one won't be faulty. :(

+1 for RMAing those. I have 2 480SC and they never get above 90 or so. 92 is the highest ive seen so far.

Totally not a problem with ambient temps. Your card likes my old 2 XFX 9800GX2, they're so hot always 80-90C in idle even I set fan speed to 100%! After Loading any game they will reach 105 and above! Some tough games will lead the card to 112-115c! So awful.
