From the reviews I've been reading, it seems like the best way to run the rig in my signature is with the GTX 470 at x16 and the 9800 GT at x4 for PhysX.

Is there any utility that checks this? I've tried Google/Bing/Forum searches that all turn up nothing useful.

I'm using an old school Asus P5Q-Pro that runs on the P45 chipset.

System Specs:

Chassis: Antec 1200
Mobo: EVGA x58 FTW3
CPU: i7 950 @ 3.9GHZ
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master V8
GPU: EVGA GTX470 @ 760/1520/1720
Folding GPU: EVGA 9800GT @ 700/1744/950
RAM: 3x2GB Patriot Sector 7
PSU: Corsair 750TX

Doesnt really matter how much bandwidth your using, you can only run it x16\x4 with that chipset, so obviously your going to want your GTX 470 running at x16 and your 9800GT at x4.

There really is nothing that can measure it. Motherboard specifications will tell you what each lane runs at. I'm assuming the top PCI-E slot runs at x16, and the bottom one runs at x4, but you might want to check with your motherboard manual to see how the PCI-E lanes are assigned.

Wont GPU-Z allow you to check a card and then use the drop down menu to check the other ( depending on version)

Actually in the Nvidia control panel you can see what everything is running at.

    Thanks

That's not correct.  Most P45's run as either 16x if only one is filled, or drop down to 8x/8x when populated with 2 cards.  This board is no different.  With one Nvidia card (or ATI) it should run in 16x; with 2 cards, the slots should drop to 8x in one and 8x in the other.

So... if i populate all three Pcie16 slots  of my P55FTW board they will run at 8x 4x 8x ???

can I populate all three pci-e 16  slots ,and also the pci-e x1 slot ,?

    will they still run at 8x 4x 8x 1x ???

The only way is the most complicated, but it can also be the most accurate for your uses.  That is, to try what reviews have done: Cover up part of the gold fingers and test the card for performance losses.  There are 16 lanes worth, you can run 16 tests if you wanted which could take at least an hour for one card.

If you plot the data you'll probably see something that looks like the corner of an ellipse, where depending on which video card is tested, there may be no difference from x16 down to x8, but from there on down ther could be sharp decreases in FPS or benchmark scores.  If this happens, then the card is x8, that the extra lanes above x8 didn't do much good because the GPU or PCIe controller isn't utilizing them.

Since many boards are limited to x16, x8, x4, x1 signals; if you discover your GTX470 ends up being an x9 or x10, it's best to stick it in an x16 slot.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].
