Hi everyone, I have built a new computer, part by part over the last month. Everything was working perfectly, until today. I purchased and installed an EVGA 660 video card and nothing at all happens when I press the power button. No clicks, beeps, nothing. I've tried clearing the cmos/bios, updating bios to the latest, etc. The only thing I can do to make the PC start is to take out the video card. It all works fine again without it :( The setup is all new: - EVGA 600B Power supply
- Asus Z97-A Motherboard
- Intel 4660K Haswell CPU
- 8GB Corsair Vengeance Ram
EVGA GTX 660 Graphics

Disable on board video if it has it, make sure you have the 6 an 8 pin power hooked up to it..

Yes, it is entirely possible the onboard graphics were enabled so make sure that is disabled as forum member Mojman2001 has recommended.

Thanks you for the responses. Isn't that only a solution if the computer starts but doesn't boot properly? In my case, there is absolutely no signs of life when the video card is plugged in. Nothing happens when I press the power button.

An EVGA 600 B I purchased a couple weeks ago. When I remove the video card, everything works perfectly (I'm using the computer as I type).

Here's a few things to try or experiment with... Do you happen to have another GPU to install or can borrow to see if it works? Or try moving the GPU to a different slot to test it with. If the issue remains with another GPU installed, it could be a PCIe slot issue. If moving the GPU to another slots works, it confirms a slot issue. It's also possible it's some type of grounding issue that's ocurring only when you install a GPU. (I think maybe that's a long shot)

Unfortunately I don't have another card to test or another system to test this card. I have three PCIe slots on my MB, and the the same problem in slot 1 and 2 (I can't put in in slot 3 due to it's size). I'm thinking the card might be DOA, but I can't bring it back to NCIX today, as it's a holiday.

Assuming it's not a BIOs issue which means it can't recognize the card then perhaps you can swap it (the card) out from NCIX when time permits.

The only other thing I can think of to test out is, remove the mobo from the case and lay on cardboard and test it. If it still doesn't work, it's probably the GPU. If it happens to work outside the case by some chance, then it's a grounding issue that only occurs when the GPU is pushed in place.

I assume you don't have any of the PCIe dipswitches disabled on your mobo??

I'm not sure what a PCIe dip switch is or looks like?

Never mind...just noticed you have an ASUS. Was thinking it was EVGA.

I don't think my board has that. Attached is the picture. On m documentation outline of the layout, the only switches noted are EPU and TPU switches.

Do you have your video card plugged into the PSU with the 6 pin connector on the side?

Hi everyone, Thank you all for attempting to help me. The first card was DOA. I got a replacement from NCIX, and that card "worked", but kept driver crashing after playing a game for a couple minutes (sometimes in the opening credits). I tried every driver, I tried everything from the hundreds of similar problems people were having online. The older drivers were giving me BSOD blue screen of death crashes, and the new drivers were just freezing and crashing. The audio was giving me stutters and interference noise through my speakers. Finally I brought it back to NCIX today and paid a little extra for an MSI GTX 760, and it's working perfectly. Zero problems with the MSI. Kegan
