Hey guys, my question is simple:
Can I add IE icon on Windows 7 desktop just like Vista?
I want that sepcial icon not shotcut.
I check MS website, they mentioned this will never happen anymore, Windows 7 will not support registry mod to do this.
But, according some Chinese website, somebody said if you modified the registry key below, you can put that special icon on desktop.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-100000000001}]
@="Internet Explorer"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-100000000001}]
@="Internet Explorer"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-100000000001}\\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\Windows\\System32\\ieframe.dll,-190"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-100000000001}\\shell]
@=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-100000000001}\\shell\NoAddOns]
@="No add-ons(&N)"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-100000000001}\\shell\NoAddOns\Command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\iexplore.exe\" -extoff"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-100000000001}\\shell\Open]
@="Open home page(&H)"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-100000000001}\\shell\Open\Command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\iexplore.exe\""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-100000000001}\\shell\Set]
@="Properties(&R)"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-100000000001}\\shell\Set\Command]
@="\"C:\\Windows\\System32\\rundll32.exe\" C:\\Windows\\System32\\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL C:\\Windows\\System32\\inetcpl.cpl"

So, who is right?

    What's so special about it?

It doesn't have a little arrow to show it is a shortcut???

    Anyways, I checked here... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945402

I guess you would have to try it, I do not use IE so I am not gonna try it... On that page it is confusing. It says...

Method 2: Add the special Internet Explorer icon to your desktop Important Windows 7 no longer supports the ability to modify the registry to get the special Internet Explorer icon to appear on your desktop. This change was made to ensure Internet Explorer could be removed easily for compliance reasons. The only way to add the Internet Explorer icon to the desktop in Windows 7 is to create a shortcut as shown in Method 1.

But then they go about explaining to you how to do it with a .reg file to modify the registry...

You can create a shortcut & have the arrow removed with the "Ultimate Windows Tweaker", if that is the problem...

    No.

With those registry key mod, some Chinese user already put the special IE icon on Win 7's desktop.
Meaning, you will have full right-click menu, and with properties, you can do advanced IE setting without open IE just like you working with XP.

I know what MS mentioned on thire website, and ido try MS's registry mod method, yeah, it's not working.

But just like I said, some crazy Chinese already put that icon on the desktop.

    Then who's right?
