I don't know if this has already been asked before, but how do you update the VBIOS for my EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW that I bought a few months ago? I don't want a burnt GPU. Sorry for the noob question, I'm new to this.

i'm guessing it's going to be exactly like this
    lol can't post links.

Look in this forums for the thread "EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 BIOS Update v86.04.50.00.70"

So pretty simple and takes 2 minutes.

They will give you a link to the vbios. You download it, then click the download file and it does everything for you.. It takes about 2 minutes, as stated above. Super easy stuff.

It has NOT BEEN RELEASED YET............................

"To resolve this, EVGA will be offering a VBIOS update, which adjusts the fan-speed curve to ensure sufficient cooling of all components across all operating temperatures.  This VBIOS will be released in the next few days and users can download it and update their cards directly.   This update resolves the potential thermal issues that have been reported, and ensures the card maintains safe operating temperatures."

    1. Download the file
    2. Extract the file
    3. Click the .exe
    4. Follow the instruction in the command line
    5. Reboot

EVGA will probably provide only the master bios for the FTW models (and higher), so you won't need to do anything more.

Is there any chance of something going wrong when you do flash your GPU bios? If something does go wrong, how do you revert to the old bios?

As well, we all know that this upcoming bios update will adjust your fan speed to help with temps, but do we know if that is the only thing that this bios update will do? It seems to me that just adjusting your fan speed in EVGA Precision might be easier, and potentially safer, than updating the GPU bios?

Updating your MOBO bios is way more dangerous since it takes a lot more time.
This literally takes 2 seconds after you type "y."

The VBIOS has very low risk of issues as long as you use the bios made for your model number. The biggest risk is the power shutting off as it updates.

If you have integrated graphics, and a VBIOS update fails, you can usually refresh the bios to recover the card.

If you have an dual bios model, you can load into one bios all the way into Windows, switch the bios position, flash the second Bios chip, and then restart. This is useful if a flash fails, because you can keep one stock/working bios loaded on the alternate bios chip at all times, and then easily recover the other bios.

Is there a guide for flashing GPU bios with a dual bios card? Should I take advantage of the dual bios feature as a safety precaution?
