Hello guys, if anyone can help me..

CPU: Ivy Bridge-E 4960K
CPU COOLER: Corsair H100i
MOBO: X79 Dark

First, I can't wait to overclock my cpu asap, but before doing that, here's my concern: When i render a complex project in Adobe After Effects, i see that my cores doesn't work hard at all (something like 30% of usage, max). During a rendering process, the CPU temperature stay around 39 degrees.

Before any overclocking, i'd like to see my 6 cores work harder. Like at least 60-70% each. Does any good soul can help me?

Best regards!
Max

Are you using all 6 Cores? Also I force my CPU's to stay un-parked.
Their is a lot of debate about parked and un-parking CPUs. I up-park mine.
Also if I recall Adobe has a setting that you will need to set to use all CORES and Hyper Threading to use all 12 CPU's.
With one Adobe tool, sorry I do not recall you had to turn OFF Hyper Threading for best performance.
I would look on Adobe's web site for more info.

Yah unparking is about the only thing that might make a difference, disable C state also does the same thing as unparking.

It's really the program that is going to determine how well it utilizes your CPU.

    Thanks for the answers guys

It sucks, i render some 3D animations added into a video footage and the 6 cores are used at 30-35%..... seriously? I bought myself a new build as a workstation made for war.

After Effects is well set, the preferences looks alright

I'd recommend using hyper threading then. I hear people that are doing encoding and video/graphics stuff That hyper threading makes a big difference.

    By default, Adobe uses Hyperthreading.

My problem is that i bough a brand new & powerful 2014 Pickups and it stays at 40 mph while it should run at 100 mph

Check out http://www.cygnus-software.com Fractal eXtreme x64 version and you will max out your i7-4960X while zooming and recording play backs. I can max out my CPU and I am running 4.4 GHz and have Max out at 4.8 GHz on my Dark Titan. I have my LCDs set at 1900x1200. At what resolution are you running at? That FORD Truck will only go as fast you push down the Gas Pedal, if you have a block under the pedal you will not exceed that 40mph you are looking for.

    Hi bcavnaugh

Exploring fractal images: Why should we explore fractal images? You did offer this but i don't know what's the point regarding After Effects

Of crouse i doesn't feel good asking this question  lol

    Thanks

No, it was to MAX at your i7-4960X CPU and all Cores to use a 100% of your CPU Power.
Not all software can take advantage of this CPU. "How to increase CPU usage: before OC" is where I was coming from not After Effects.

Yes. hyperthreading is enabled in After Effects and every single preference optimisation is set correctly.

    * Update *

On the attached pictures, we see a comparaison of two different Projects with two different amount of complexity.

    • The one with a lot of effects (plugins FX) cannot render with more than 30-40% of CPU usage
    • While the other project (simpler/effortless) can use 80 to 100% CPU

While it can be logic, i'm surprised. I thought that more cores would handle more complexity......

Very good. Wasn't sure what the whole pickup truck thing was about.
