I've found these 2 things to make big difference for me on the Asus Maximus VIII Hero.

First set your FCLK to 1Ghz, default is 800Mhz...  this gets you ~25% more bandwidth between CPU & PCIe cards.

Lastly disable the buggy as hell ASMedia SATA controller and uninstall the drivers for this too!!!!    For some reason this driver tanked my performance across the board.   Caused horrible stuttering in games and just generally issues.

If you have any devices, hard drives, ect...   connected on these SATA ports move them to the Intel SATA ports!

shadowdane. Could you provide more info on the asus Maximus MB sata issue? I'm sitting on a Maximus 8 Alpha which is to be installed in the next day or 2. I was planning on using the Intel sata controller for 2xSeagate 2GB drive raid/mirror set and putting 2 SSD's for system and games on the ASMedia controller.

That board has 4 SATA for the Intel chipset...     just connect all 4 to the Intel ports.    Configure the 2 x 2TB as Raid-1, leave the other 2 SSD drives out of the RAID pool.    Those will show up separate drives as normal.

--------
The biggest issue with the ASMedia they never got anywhere close to full bandwidth..   when I tried my 850 EVO on it I lost about 100-200MB/sec bandwidth.   Bandwidth tests were highly variable and not consistent at all.    Also when I tried a benchmark test with HD tune you'd see stutters in the transfer speed, maybe once per second it would drop to around 20-25MB/sec then bounce back up.    I didn't see this issue on the Intel SATA controller, so I've just been using those since I installed the board last year.

Now I will say I haven't tried using the ASMedia ports since last year, so I don't know if they have improved drivers or fixed them.    At released in Sept 2015 they were horribly buggy and everyone was recommending to just disable them.   So it's been disabled in the BIOS since I installed this board.

OK, thx. I thought I read that if I configured a raid set with the Intel sata controller I couldn't use the 'other' sata ports on that controller. I'll re-read.
