Well, its been nearly 5 years since I picked up my Blackbird 002 at the Voodoo offices in Calgary. Was a good day. I've really gotten a lot out of that machine (both work and play). But it was time to say so long to the Asus Striker Extreme 680i mobo and get with the times
.
Prior to this I'd never "built" a computer. I've tinkered and changed things from time to time, but never had the balls to strip my perfectly functional "once" high end compy down to bare bones and start from scratch. Well, I decided to jump in feet first a do it, hehe. And you know what, it was fun. Kind of reminded me of my days rebuilding my old 73 Chevy Nova when I was in High School... just on a smaller scale.
Here are the parts I used:
Gigabyte X79-UD3 motherboard
Intel i7 3930k CPU
Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866 DDR3 memory (16GB)
Corsair H100 cooler
OCZ Vertex 4 256GB SSD
EVGA GTX 690 (yes, I was a bit goofy here when I placed the order - but I'm a happy camper)
Seasonic Platinum 1000W PSU
I replaced the case fan and the H100 fans with Noctua NF-F12's (really happy with these as they are nice and quiet and we're keeping idle temps down in the mid 20's). And for a bit of bling, I added a Gelid Wing rear case exhaust fan (blue led). So overall, was happy with the colours (black, silver and blue)... except for those damn Noctua fans, but not much I can do there. I'll live with it.
I decided to keep by Soundbalster Xfi card (as it works well enough for me) and I had to bite the bullet and use an IDE controller card to run the slim slot drives.
Right, once I figure out how to post the pics, they'll be right up. Looking forward to showing it all to you.
Tommy
