Today I received my second GeForce GTX 980 SC ACX2.0 and my EVGA SLI bridge.  I immediately installed the card and powered up my system.  NVidia control panel only saw one card, so I figured I put the bridge on the wrong ports (outermost); I powered down, unplugged everything, moved the bridge to the other port (innermost) and tried again.  Nothing! NVidia Control Panel still sees only one card.
My specs:
Asus Z97-Deluxe motherboard
Intel 4790k CPU
Corsair AX1200i PSU
I am using Corsair individually sleeved cables.  I kept the same two PCIe cables I had in my system plugged in to my pre-existing card, and added two new ones to the second card.  The connections are tight.  The lettering on both card lights up, as well as the SLI bridge, so I now the components are getting power.
Am I missing a configuration step? What do I need to do to set up SLI properly?
EDIT: I tried the SLI bridge that came with the motherboard without luck either. I am attaching a picture of my system.

If the NCP only reports a single GPU, the system itself is not seeing two GPU's.  You can check in the display adapters section of the Device Manager, both cards should be there.  Test the cards individually and if they look fine in one slot, test the second slot too.

SLI bridge should be fine as that would not affect whether the GPU's are visible.  The SLI option on the other hand, it most certainly would.

Do note that while that board does support SLI, the GPU's need to be installed in the first two PCIex16 slots as the last one is only x4.

Thanks for the tip.  Device Manager reports that Windows has stopped the second card.  Please see attached image.  Now what?

I am new to setting up SLI, but it looks like windows auto installed the driver for your second card.

I would try a clean re install of the driver's to resolve the issue, I am sure someone else with more experience will chime in to help.

Try the new card by itself in the primary graphics slot. If everything works, move the card to the second PCIe slot. This will confirm card and motherboard.

Thank you, I did this, and confirmed that one of the PCI-e cables to the new card was not properly seated at the PSU end.  Pushed it in a tiny bit and everything worked.  It's always the little things that get us, like a loose cable.  I was wondering about the drivers, the bridge, whether I had a bad card, what Windows might be doing just to spite me... and it was a loose cable.  Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help.

So much win here! Old saying "Always check the cables first" wins again :) Glad to hear it was an easy fix.
