I read on the official nvidia support for 4k and it states the gtx 1060 6gb isn't support, but in the description for this card I read it "improves 4k gaming". I can run most games in ultra so I suppose if I could run it in 4k I'd have to go to low-medium settings, which probably defeats the purpose. Can anybody provide any clarity.

The 1060 can run most older games at 4K but don't expect it to run any new games at 4K... well at least not with max settings.

If you want 4K gaming you're going to need a 1080 Ti or 2x 1080's in SLI.

Does your monitor support 4K? If not, you'll have to use Nvidia's DSR to upscale the image.

I was thinking about getting a 4k monitor, but I assume running a 4k game on low vs 1080p on max is probably about even

Yeah 4k is pretty amazing with the 1080 Ti.  It's probably not 100% there as a "true single card solution for 4k gaming on ultra settings" but it's at least 95% there LOL... I can cap 60 fps on every AAA game I own with the exception of Witcher 3 where my average fps is 56-57 when I play.

I'm happy with where I'm at with a single GPU.  Will have to see what Volta brings to the table next year.
