I can see the last link. Hope they can figure it out quickly.
Remember how long it took to figure out what went wrong with folding a few years ago.

The drivers have no influence on the new 20xx GPUs, only the older GTX cards?

The hold up from me or from me is they want a process that is used and the only thing I can really do is give them the EXE File.
But we need PG to provide the rest of the data. They seem to now want to install BOINC Client and run the AP App but we have to wait.

Also on the Bad Drivers for Folding I wish we had a list of them.

The 20xx cards were not supported by driver 399 and prior, so it would be hard to properly test older drivers.

But the RTX and all the 4xx.xx Drivers are not having the same Performance Problems with CUDA apps as are the GTX.
I tested all of them on my two cards.

Bill, understood. They shouldn’t be affected. The question of affect should be related to older driver versus newer drivers on older cards. The new tech should be properly supported, but why isn’t the older tech.

Re: Geforce Drivers 4xx.xx Drop more than 2/3 in CUDA Performance from the 3xx.xx Drvers. 2018/11/27 19:41:01 (permalink)
Might be better for Nvidia to work with PG to get this fixed.

One last thought on AMD and Nvidia gimping cards.
AMD gimped the Double Precision of GPUs after the R9-280x.  HD78xx 79xx x270 280 280x had good DP calculations.
The cards were great at it for projects like Milkyway and a couple Primegrid subprojects
Nvidia gimped the consumer cards like the Titan 6gb, Titan Black and Titan Z. Again, great at Milkyway and some PG that use DP calculations.  Called FP64 performance.
https://www.geeks3d.com/20140305/amd-radeon-and-nvidia-geforce-fp32-fp64-gflops-table-computing/

Why did they do it? So people would buy Work Station grade cards like Firepro and Quadro series. They even said so.
They do not want people to use cheaper consumer grade cards for workstation type data processing. Why spend more?

Did they do it this time with the Primegrid/driver issue at hand to hinder performance? I doubt it.
They may or may not get this issue fixed, if so just use the old drivers.

Let's hope because that would put an ending for BOINC and maybe even Folding if NVIDIA is going to do this to the Home User.

On my PG Thread I did ask PG's help

Aside from PG, did the drivers hurt folding or any other projects?
How about other PG subprojects?

Going to start testing that tomorrow.
Not sure it is possible to test Folding but I am going to look at other CUDA Based Projects.
Good news for at least the GTX cards I did not see any OpenCL issues, Yet!

I'll see if I can run a long PG task and stop it in progress, change drivers and see if time per % changes over a set amount of %.
If looking at whole tasks, make sure they are of the same size. They can vary.

Other than AP not sure what other PG Apps are CUDA Based, most are OpenCL or OpenGL
primegrid_ap27_2.02_windows_x86_64__OCL_cuda_AP27.exe
Supported platforms:
  • Windows: Nvidia GPU1 (OpenCL): 64 bit, AMD/ATI GPU1 (OpenCL): 64 bit, CPU: 64 bit
  • Linux: Nvidia GPU1 (OpenCL): 64 bit, AMD/ATI GPU1 (OpenCL): 64 bit, CPU: 64 bit
  • Mac2: Nvidia GPU1 (OpenCL): 64 bit, CPU: 64 bit
1 GPU must have a minimum of 1.5 GB of VRAM. 2 Due to an Apple driver bug, no ATI/AMD GPU application is available for Mac.

Deadline: 7 days (up to 30 days)

https://www.primegrid.com/apps.php
AP are OCL_cuda
PPS (Sieve) -- "pps_sr2sieve"  (openclatiPPSsieve) & (cudaPPSsieve)

All the other NVIDIA are OpenCL Apps like the GFN Apps
We have some testing ahead I see it now.

primegrid_ap27_2.02_windows_x86_64__OCL_cuda_AP27.exe This File name is what might be really an OpenCL issue and not CUDA

I added the below to the Bug Report and if OpenCL then they may close and have me reopen on the OpenCL side if there is one.

From https://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=7022&nowrap=true#98979
The original AP26 program was written by Jaroslaw Wróblewski and adapted to BOINC by Geoff Reynolds.
The 2016 CPU and OpenCL versions of AP26 were updated by Bryan Little and Iain Bethune.

Well now some know why I only posted here
A Good reason that PG should be working this.

That is a day or day and half to complete and even longer on a GTX Card.
I think this runs it primegrid_genefer_3_3_3_3.19_windows_intelx86__OCLcudaGFNWR.exe

Can run the task and test then abort it after testing. Don't have to finish it

And a long task will make sure there is no difference in size.
Other subproject the task size can be a lot bigger or smaller than the next task
Best to work on just one task? Maybe? I don't know

I not a programmer oh well, need help from other with this.

GeForce Drivers 4xx.xx Drop more than 2/3 in OpenCL or CUDA Performance from the 3xx.xx Drivers
This is also not the fist time NVIDIA killed on OpenCL but who knows.
Sorry to the member that took my data with CUDA to NVIDIA and not OpenCL

I think it is opencl looking at the requirements, why the heck it says cuda on the task.
Confusing to say the least.

I have this CUDA-Z-0.10.251-64bit.exe and can run it on the Drivers.
Looking for this type for OpenCL and I think I have a file somewhere.

GPU Caps Viewer 1.40.1.0
Found it and just updated this month

I forgot this is from where I got GPUShark.exe from.

Nvidia just responded to my open ticket. They are actively working on this issue right now.

Can anyone give me an idea how to answer their question?

nvidiaWe're trying to reproduce the OpenCL performance drop issue locally, but when we run primegrid_ap27_2.02_windows_x86_64__OCL_cuda_AP27.exe on Windows10 RS4 + GTX1080 + Inteli7 CPU then we got error massage "Can't open init data file - running in standalone mode". Could you please let us know if we miss something/system setup/software install before running primegrid_ap27_2.02_windows_x86_64__OCL_cuda_AP27.exe ? Thank you.
