I have a Geforce 9800 GT and I've had it for maybe a year now and haven't had too many issues, besides over heating while playing some games with high AA settings (but that's understandable) so I downloaded EVGA Precision to turn up the fan speed (haven't touched any of the clock speeds.)  At first I had to keep the fan at 61% to keep the card cool but now it's getting hot even with the fan at 80%, so I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do to help cool it down. My power supply shouldn't be the problem, the volts are normal and it's an Ultra LSP 750 watt power supply so it should be getting enough power, plus I haven't had issues with it before and nothing has changed in my system power consumption wise.

Thanks for reading and if you need any more information about my build to help, I'll be happy to post it for you.

This is at 61% fan speed, before I cleaned out the dust it was at around 130F (54C) while my computer was idle.  After cleaning it, at 61% it was at 122F (50C), now after cleaning and turning the speed up to 81%, it's idling at 114F (46C.)  Please tell me I'm not over reacting, but I'm not used to it getting this high idling.

Welcome to the forums btw..Yes, you're way overreacting !..Actually, those temps are completely normal..Cool as a cucumber..The NVIDIA max. temp. spec. for that GPU is 105C..Don't even remotely begin to worry about it untill you're getting up to around 90C on a regular basis when stress testing/benchmarking..Here's the specs: http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_9800gt_us.html

Yeah def wouldn't worry about those idle temps. After cleaning and upping the fan speed what temps do you get at load?

I believe i'm having the same trouble. I was planning on using a older driver, and I never got driver sweeper to work (A file was missing I believe.) My fans are however only running at 30% and I'm not exactly sure how to speed it up. I'm having that issue where your Screen shows off the vibrant colours..after that, you cannot alt-tab and it forces you to restart your computer. This has been going on for about two-weeks now, and it's gotten bad enough to where I can't run MMOs. It's quite annoying and i'd like a fix so I can at least get my gaming fix.

so this is the thing if your still worrying about overheating issues then this is what i did with my 9800 gt after the fan went down and did not want to deal with all the BS of having my card fixed .. take a screwdriver and rip off the back plate then take out the tiny screws that hold the plastic that the fan is in off then find yourself a old socket 478 heat sink and fan take the fan off the heat sink and jam it in to the heat sink of your GPU. I haven't seen temp's over 50c since i did this works great
