Hmm folding never interested me, but yer if you have enough wealth to buy them, go ahead.

2x EVGA GTX 780 Ti FTW Edition 3GB's is what I plan on using for HD Video compiling, MD5 hashing, doing certain renders for friends of mine and the games I like doing.
The GTX 790 would be a nice thing to have around and I would not mind having a pair, but never for 1100 euro's a card ...
As I don't have 1100 euro's for a mass produced VGA card that is Made in China

Now if it were an Engineering Sample, then I see it as a different matter, even though I will always try getting it for a lot less

It seems my speculations were correct to this point ;)

2x 2496 Kepler CUDA Cores  but 2x 5192MB 320Bit GDDR5? hmm doubt that, I still think it will be 2x 3072MB 384Bit GDDR5, then the GPGPU's clocked between that of the GTX Titan & GTX 780, the same for the VRAM.

Again I saw this coming NVIDIA is just following up the GX2 pattern, same as they did with GTX 590, a card many also thought that was not possible

Maybe, as long you conceded your speculations have changed over time. I think Maxwell, might interrupt your dream though. Time will tell.

From WCCFtech

Quote:

Nvidia ”GTX 790” Will have 10 GB GDDR5 of Memory, 640Bit Bandwidth and 4992 Cuda Cores – Stated to Release sometime February.

It appears that the ”GTX 790” will not be a Dual 780 Ti, a Dual Titan or even a Dual GTX 780. It is rather something inbetween these three. A 780 has 2304 Cuda Cores, a Ti 2880 and a Titan 2688. The Nvidia Geforce GTX 790 will have:
  • Cuda Cores: 2496 (x2)
  • Memory: 5Gb GDDR5 (x2)
  • Mem Bus: 320 Bit (x2)
  • Core: GK110 (x2)
The interesting thing is that Maxwell is geared for release anytime now (maybe by tomorrow) and if this leak is true then it could mean that the Maxwell Flagship isn’t here as of yet. Otherwise it would make less sense to release the ”GTX 790”.  Then again both Green and Red have made seemingly illogical moves in the past.
The other obvious reason, and the one i think is much more likely, could be its response to the Dual GPU Vesuvius that AMD is preparing. A Dual vs Dual, Green Vs Red showdown. However We can see that even with their much better Reference Coolers Nvidia has curtailed its Cuda Cores while on the other hand Vesuvius would be full blown Hawaii XT Cores on their bad reference coolers. Possibly Vesuvius will not come in a reference design at all, but that is mere speculation on my part.
Finally, our source also says that you can expect the Geforce GTX 790 anytime in February. Also there is word in the air that Nvidia is deciding against a GTX 780 Ti 6GB.

I think it's possible, if there is a way for Nvidia to milk a consumer with old tech, they will do it.

With GTX 790 NVIDIA can delay Maxwell to about Late Q3 of 2014 to like early Q4 of 2014 and with GTX 790 NVIDIA has a new flagship too
AMD's R9 290X x2 which also has been rumoured would be of need to take this behemoth on, as for their Mantle API, if this does make a revolution as 3dfx Glide API did, NVIDIA could release their new version of Glide to tackle on Mantle, as they bought over 3dfx Interactive on December 2000, they do have the rights to use their logo's even for a new API that can take on Mantle, but then they could call it NV Glide x64 or so? Anyhow this would be a possibility, although it's just a thought I had in mind

All that comes to mind on just how the mud is thrown from one to the other, that is one thing that shall never change
Yet I plan to stand open to both vendors, they both can succeed with great idea's, but they both can fail as well, we'll see

Unless that are rebranded Keplers, something NVIDIA has done many times before, more like the way it's meant to be renamed scandals of the past, AMD has done the same as that goes, Companies do such things to make money.

Hmm Could it be possible that a GTX 790 will be made, since a GTX Titan Black GX2 is possible as GTX Titan Z goes right?

They can always use the new arch with 28nm for dual gpu and call it Maxwell. Better perf/watt. The new arch has better perf/watt. But, a new arch combined with a new node is where you see a real performance jump, sequentially, generation over generation.
One of the reasons for Nvidia to stay on 28nm is if they know that AMD will not be releasing a 20nm new arch gpu this year.

GTX 790 = 2 x GTX 780 with 2 x 2600 Kepler CUDA Cores & 2x 4096MB 384Bit GDDR5, This is my wish.

One is that 780 never gonna see 6GB Vram unless the card is named titan.

I don't know what to think. But assume that drivers tell the truth of what is really happening. They are trying to get out of the SLI Surround and do only single card surrounds. 700s can no longer do SLI surround unless using older drivers. They don't want cards that cost less then the upper class to beat the high priced Single cards. You can get 3 760s even 770s and out perform ! Titan and in some cases keep up close enough to 2 titans. IN game you cant even tell which is the 2xtitan or 3x770 / 3x760s.

Bottom line No 790 wont happen they have already have the 800mseries in driver section and the Maxwell's are in th750s not a routine they ever have used before. There eyes are on other things.IMO

Re:GeForce GTX 790, here my Speculations, for news also post here please! :) 2014/04/07 08:40:32 (permalink)
It bears repeating that nVidia doesn't do anything unless AMD either might have a threat to a current lineup or can't do anything about it.
  1. All dual-GPU nVidia cards in the past have doubled up the number of cores and Vram of the reference models only. There is no business incentive to go further since the competition isn't doing that either.  R9-295x2 has 8GB total due to each Hawaii GPU having 4GB for itself; AMD isn't putting 16GB on the card.
  2. To keep from cannibalizing Titan-Z, a "GTX790" could simply have it DP disabled and have half the Vram due to GTX780 and GTX780 Ti's popularity despite 3GB per GPU.
  3. Of course the only reason I can fathom a "GTX790" to come is due to R9-295x2.  It is already projected to be 37% faster than Titan-Z by single-precision calculation alone (11 TFLOPS versus 8 TFLOPS)-- AMD could price R9-295x2 at $4000 and still win per dollar.  But according to an unsubstantiated rumor from nordichardware, a Swedish retailer accidentally listed the ASUS R9-295x2 at 18,000 Crowns = 900 Dollars.  So the price may start out way lower than Titan-Z; but nVidia could also debut Titan Z cheaper too; I don't think $2999 is in stone.
donta1979
It wont happen NVidia will not want to dip into their  higher end market that is the Titian. If amd does not offer something of almost equal to better performance it defiantly wont happen.
There are several tiers of Titan now; the point of competition is steal away customers, and the best way to to that is to fill the gaps in a competitor's portfolio-- nVidia is asking for it given the gap between Titan Black and Titan Z.

If R9-295x2 manages close enough performance for way less price, that is enough to threaten Z's sales and cause nVidia to react.  We just don't know what they will react with.  I'm sure some would like Titan-Z to drop in price, but I think making a GTX790 out of a pair GTX780's with 3GB each is far more likely; and will consume way less power than whatever Titan-Z is expected to use.
