I have an Acer desktop that had a Nividia 7400 display driver in it that stopped working,  I removed it and installed it about 3 times and it worked on and off and then died completly

so I ordered the GeForce 8400 GS to preplace it.  It has a PCI Express slot.  It has Windows Vista.

I installed the new card and I get nothing.

I tried the CD that came with the card and when you click to install drivers it comes up with a big red X

I tried going to this website and downloading the drivers and they appear to download.

But Still Nothing

The computer does not even see the card.

I tired doing the Hardware install function on control panal and it does not have a Nividia selection and cant find the display card

What do I do now?

send me an email if you have a fix.

    Welcome to the forums.

If they are both not seen by windows and at POST the slot may be having issues.  If possible try them in another system and see if they are seen correctly.

    Post back the results.

PCIe 2.0 cards will work in 1.0 PCIe slots 99.9% of the time so if you have an older PCIe 1.0 x16 slot in a system give it a go.  The .01% is typically due to needing a BIOS update but it is extremely rare.

Please note, PCIe cards do not work in PCI slots.

The Acer only has just one PCI Express slot.

If it is possible try a different power supply as on-board uses less power than the separate cards.  It would not be an issue with a BIOS setting if there was not changed and the last card was working for a while.

If there is no change or other power supplies or systems to test with it could be bad but if the last card was being replaced for the same thing the new card is doing it may not be card that has failed.

If you want to contact us register the card under your account here then upload a copy of the invoice here.  You can call us at 888-881-3842 24/7.  Have your serial number handy when you call.

I dont have a wharehouse of extra parts laying around.

I bought this Display Card to replace the NVIDA GeForce Card that already was in the PCI Express port that stopped working.

The CD That can with my ne 8400GS wont even let me click on the Load software icon.  It comes up with a Big Red X.  Whats that all about?

My computer wount see the 8400GS in the slot so I cant force it to use any drivers that I down loaded from the EVGA Website.

Can I get a brand new Display Card to replace this one?

I bought it from Tiger Direct.

If you don't have any extra parts to test with it is ok.  I asked about testing with different parts as at this level it is pretty much the only way to test with this issue if the BIOS is setup correctly.  You can reset the BIOS and then re-set it up for using the video card added in and see if there is any change.  If not give us a call.

For the replacement if it fails within the first 30 days of purchase we replace with a new card, otherwise it will be a re-certified card.
