When playing BF4 or Crysis 3 my temp readings are about 78-80 degrees. Is this normal, it just seems a tad bit hot when putting your hand near the exhaust. I am tempted to turn my fan speed up but the reference card model is so loud. Am I okay with leaving the card on auto for fan speed/temp?

Under load, those temps are fine. I don't know what case you have, or your air flow. You should put your specs in your sig and/or do a Mods Rig.

Run a new profile and set it to run the fans at 65-70% at 70 degrees.  Your max temps under hard gaming will stay in the lower 70's.  Without a custom profile, my 980 SC hits 81 degree's then, the fans are only running at 50% and it will throttle back its performance down to base clocks speeds and according to GPUz; 50% isnt enough for gaming.   Yes, its pretty dumb to have to do this, but these cards are made to run as silent as possible, so it seems.

Hoping the 980 "Classified" will have the ACX version. That's the fan I want too.          =)

Great tip on adding the 70 degrees node to the fan profile.
Worked like a charm on my 970 - thanks!

Just set the temp limit to 95C and leave the fan on auto. It shouldn't throttle then.
