Hi,

Today was a sad day - my PC turned of out of nowhere, and I was not able to turn it back on. The issue turned out to be the GPU:

This is "EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Superclocked ACX 2.0" (model id 2983). Used for gaming, some minor photo/video processing etc. No overclocking as default boosting was good enough. Oh, and the PSU (Silverstone 500W with Gold cert to power 180w GPU, 65w CPU and 2 SSDs) was not overloaded.
The graphics card is out of warranty (bought Oct 2015).
So, my question is, is there anything I can do here? Get a new MOSFET (?), and some soldering (baking?). I have seen some successful attempts over the internet when it comes to fixing burned graphics card, but to do it myself I would need to know what exactly is burned here (part numbers?) and what else needs replacement. Would the replacement even work?

Thanks.

It was bought through EVGA B-Stock that only gives one year of warranty (as far as I am aware)

yep sell it for parts on Ebay.  I bet you will get at least 150.00

Just list it as not working for parts only

I'm running 388.71, no idea if it's related but my card burned up within a day of updating.   My 560ti is running on those with no issues so far...  There must be something up somewhere though for so many cards to be failing like this.  Forum barely had anything like this and no loads within a short space of time.

    I was running 388.59 and win10 (16299.192).

Looks like the only thing that I can do now is to sell this for parts.

???? ever know,   could be a time bomb type  program that disables a item at a set time  ?   notice the big push to get you off all your old hardware and software and in to the win-10 only revolution  ?
data , voice ,fingerprint , face recognition data , GPS on just about everything you use today all needs to be collected from you and stored  then you put the rest is your whole life on facebook  .   never seen personal privacy being given up  so wanting and willingly    by having folks think its so neat and great  . best thing ever

Contact EVGA - maybe, they will be generous! Good luck!

I had that card too, and it still works in the desktop of my brother. But he and I made our own fancurve and never used the passive feature of the cooler.

Conspiracy theories aren’t required. With a simple google search, you can see that components have done this for many years on all brands of gpu’s and even some motherboards, to include Nvidia and AMD parts. I see folks tossing these theories that are unfounded each time something is posted.

It is just unfortunate to see it happening to another user. I would be upset if mine did this for sure. Hopefully the OP can find the parts he needs or can find a decently priced replacement gpu.

B-stock items only have a 1 year warranty as previously mentioned. You mentioned buying it on October 2015 so the warranty would have expired on October 2016.
