I have been struggling to get a stable 1500mhz or more out of my 78% ASIC rated Kingpin on air. It's been infuriating.

You are on a 980ti kingpin, not a 980. The max I ever got on air was stock. They wouldn't go beyond stock and they actually failed horribly at 70c. Once I out them under water, mid winter with below 0c air on the radiators, I got them to 1550. I had 4 total, and every one of them reacted the same and the ASICS varied. Everyone got Samsung memory. It was kind of the only memory used on the Kingpins. The classifieds and lower have hynix or Samsung.

Power target was always maxed at 107% on normal bios, and 150% on LN2 bios, and voltage never made a difference so it sat at stock voltage. Never needed a custom bios to get any more, even though I tries every bios that kingpin made and it never made a difference.

I think I finally managed a stable full boost 1513mhz core clock with OC BIOS with aggressive fan curve at 65c on 71+ core and +300 VRAM for 3847mhz

Not bad, I can hit 1528 Mhz on core, and +695 Mhz on ram. now im limtet by the tempeture... I cant get higher even my GPU is only max 65c. tryed and lowered the room, so my GPU was max 54c, and I was able to hit 1540 Mhz, so need water on it :P

I told you, Temps change everything on Maxwell. It's crazy, lol. If you ours get them in the 40's, you could probably break 1550. I can't guarantee that, but it is a definite possibility. The only issue... It's expensive to figure out if it works.

I know these aren't Kingpin boards but these temps are good? They're in the 40's, right? Is this a decent overclock?

Not trying to be a dick but 1500 should be a breeze for those cards. I can do 1500 on these generic zotac cards without touching voltage. My cards are 76.3 asic. I would RMA.

Danm sick overclock! is that on std volt? is all about the temps! got mine to 1540 cause I could get my room to a lower temp so my cards only was 56-58c. so 20 Mhz with same volt, is all about the temps.

They shouldn't allow RMA's based on overclock. That is his answer every time someone says they can't get a better overclock, and this is why evga specifically out this into the Kingpin purchase details: * ASIC stands for "application-specific integrated circuit", which is a general term used to describe a processor designed for a specific task. All GPU’s have varying levels of ASIC QUALITY levels, which can be read from applications like GPU-Z. The higher the ASIC quality, the rarer the GPU and the higher potential there is for a better overclock. Of course, this can vary and does not guarantee any specific overclock. This doesn't stop people from doing an RMA, but when you get a card for far less than half of what it costed brand new, you could be happy it wasn't a brick. Doing an RMA on a Kingpin card has the potential of receiving a downgraded asic quality, and I doubt you would get a refund since it is a used card. As stated in the other thread, since this one is getting off topic, be happy with the card you have. If you wish to talk about the 080ti kingpin, please make a 980ti kingpin thread, as the OP is not referring to the Ti class of cards and these perform far differently and are treated as such.

Don't pay attention to Arct1c0n. He is using a GTX-980 ti and they have lower clock rates than a GTX-980 to begin with. 1500 MHz is easy for a GTX-980.
