Hello guys,

I read about the program Step-Up so I wonder whether it is worth to exchange gtx 970 ftw on GTX 980.

Why can't replace it with a more powerful model /the same equivalent (FTW)?

Is it worth it?

EVGA GTX 1080Ti FTW | Samsung 850 PRO 256GB | Samsung 830 128GB | WD Blue Caviar 1TB
Seasonic Platinum SS-1000XP | Asus Xonar Essence STX II
LC | Obisidian 900D
Acer XB271HU G Sync

I'm wondering the same thing and also have a 970 FTW. If you have a 1080p 144hz or a 1440p monitor it might be worth it to step up to a 980, but I would guess that the 980 ACX 2.0 (the only model eligible for step-up) is not going to be much better than the 970 FTW. It might be better to hold on to the 970, but upgrade earlier than you would if you had gone for a 980. Alternatively, FTW owners may be able to step-up to the new SSC or FTW+ that will hopefully be released soon for no more than the shipping costs for most. When deciding on the 970 or 980 it mostly comes down to how much worth slightly better performance has to you for that extra $150-$200.

Personally I would stay with the 970 GTX FTW. Why? Stock 970 GTX FTW is only 5-8FPS or so shy vs the 980 GTX Stock that you can Step-Up to. Not only that the FTW 970 has a lot more head room to still Overclock.

I have a 970 GTX FTW currently and I love it.. thinking on grabbing a second one.

You would maybe gain 12% performance on average. Some games see around a 10% difference, some see about a 14% difference.

Intel i9 10900K
MSI MEG Z490 ACE
ASUS TUF RTX 3090
32GB G.Skill Trident Z Royal 4000MHz CL18
SuperFlower Platinum SE 1200w
Samsung EVO 970 1TB and Crucial P5 1TB

Got  970 FTW , performance is great even at 1440 res , on standard clock . No point in going to 980 , save your cash

if your gaming on insane res like 2-4k then sure 980 maybe. for 1920x1080 970 is more than sufficent.
