I'm a little lost. I have a GTX 970 PN: 04G-P4-3975-KR.

The Board has a 6 pin and 8 pin adapter. When I tried to use a 8 pin PCI-E i got 3 short beeps on post. The person I bought this from told me that I need both 6 and 8 attached to the PSU.

Is this true? If so, where can I purchase these cables?

What power supply do you have? It will depend on what spare cables you have as to what adapter you will need.

It's a thermal take..I'm trying to get the Model type but it's about 6 years old. 850 watts. I don't have any of the cables any longer so I'm trying to buy them it uses 6pci-e.

and this card is 6/8 PCI

    Requirements Link

    • Minimum of a 500 Watt power supply.
    • An available 6-pin PCI-E power connector and an available 8 pin PCI-E power connector

What Thermaltake Model PSU do you have?
It is "about 6 years old" Time to get a New PSU.
Why Spend $50 more for cables on that old of a PSU?

+1.  For not a whole lot more you can buy a new and more efficient PSU with a full warranty...

I can also confirm that the 6 and 8 pin are both required to use the card. All pins must be populated.

I honestly would take the money and cash in on a new EVGA superNOVA PSU and this point. I replaced my aging Cooler Master that was 7 years old with a super NOVA 1000 T2 and I have not regretted it one bit!! Actually helped stabilize my OC on my RAM and CPU.

As long as your popular enough, you can get away with anything.

This right here. You NEED both 6 and 8 Pin PCI-E power cables to run it. If your PSU does NOT have them, you need to modernize and buy one. I personally recommend EVGA's Supernova line. I have not had a single issue what so ever with my 1300G2 1300W PSU. Do you need that big? No, but at the time I bought mine it was on sale, AND, 10yr warranty. I recommend buying one at least 850w if your going to use a 970. Better to have more then need more.

Using it with 2 1080 Ti SC's atm no problems. Bought it before I had 2 970's.
