EVGA engineer please make a new firmware that has lower 2D fan speed. I've had several EVGA cards (8800GS, GTX570) and none of them have such high 2D fan speed and it's very annoying. Please please please.

Are you using PrecX or MSI AB with a custom fan profile?? If not, here's an example in attachment.

Hi has the fan speed gone down to 21% or is it running at maximum revolutions?

It's in 2D mode. its just EVGA didnt make the fan turn slow enough even at 21% fan speed. my GTX570 at lowest 40% setting is quieter.

These little fans are annoyingly noisy even at low settings and sound like a mini hair dryer gone mad when even at 50%. I feel for ya, coming off of a water cooled card myself I gave up on folding because of the noise.

Never mind. Disregard this post. So if I'm reading this right, you're saying your 8800 at 21% fan speed is to loud? And your 570 goes down to 40% and it's quieter. If your asking for a firmware update on your 8800 , I'm thinking your going to be out of luck I'm afraid. If you're talking about the 570 being too loud, there might be a firmware update out there. Don't know if it would make a difference in that regard, but you could contact EVGA support directly to find out. Every generation of new GPU's runs a bit cooler then the last and with better cooling designs, allows them to be quieter along with better fans. That's why your 570 even at 40% is quieter than your 8800 at 21%. At least you have many other fixes for the issue. ie; H2O cooling, upgrading to newer card, re-applying tim and/or new cooling fan, etc...good luck bud.

@bdary Read the header "GTX 650 Loud Fan". I think he was just referencing the other cards.

my point is even at 21% fan speed, my 650 has a lower idle temp at 26c compare to my 570 at 40% idle fan speed at 35c. I think Evga when they designed the firmware should have a higher idle target temp like 35c which would still cool enough for the card but also a lower fan speed for a quieter idle operation. I am very tempting to make a resistor adapter just to reduce the fan speed but also do some testing so that it does not overheat at max. I am an electronics engineer and I like quiet computers .

My 670's won't go below 30%. I'm thinking you really wouldn't like that sound then...lol So I have 3 cards all idling at 30% fan speed.

like I said it depends on card setup. you can have a fan spinning from 2000-5000 from 20%-100% thats loud, or you can have a fan spinning from 1000-5000 from 30%-100%. the later will be much quieter.

That's makes sense...unless of course you replace the stock fan with some aftermarket super quiet fan.

I just wish there was a way to water cool these cards with a universal block and correct sized heat sinks. Water cooling is as popular as ever with the inexpensive cooling kits so the information on what we can use should be made available by the card distributors. I do know that I will never buy another card from any company if I can't see alternate cooling solutions for the model I want to purchase.

@speedjason86, Feeling the same... and in the same boat as you currently. GTX 650 that sounds like a jet engine from the moment the power button is depressed. Considering the positive experience with other EVGA cards I've owned... I'm at a complete loss. I built this PC for a family member and as of now... she doesn't want it because the card is so loud at idle (min fan %)
