So it's time to buy a new graphics card. I'm on a pretty tight budget. The 460 looks to be a great step up from my 9500gt. Question is, with my current slightly outdated system, will there be a great performance increase, or will my current setup hold me back?

Specs in sig. :)

Open to any opinions. I am considering building something around an x58 board at some point, but right now my budget is pretty tight.

I just upgraded to a 460 from an 8800GTX and i could not be happier with the results. Thee 8800 was giving me around 7000 in 3Dmark vantage and the single 460 brought me up to 14000. You will have a pretty substantial bottleneck with that cpu but still a worthwhile upgrade from your 9500. Your best bet would be to get a C2D for cheap off ebay or something and you'll really get your money's worth from the 460.

I saw a pretty nice kick going from a GTX 260 to a 460. For you, going from a 9500 GT to a 460 will be like .

Any thoughts on AA with the 460?

Ex: I can play Crysis Warhead at 1024x768 @ 40-60 fps on mainstream settings. Add even 2x AA, and it drops below 20. (automatically kicks the games shader quality to "gamer" also)

what should i expect to see with a 460, assuming people have used it with this game?

Just swapped out an 8800 ultra for a 460 I'm using an e6850.  In civ V I went from medium settings dx9 to full maxed settings AA8 with high tesselation dx11. The improvement was large enough it was almost like playing a different game everything from zooming to scrolling went from iffy to flawless.  The amount of heat produced is also a huge benefit I don't have to keep the window open to keep the office from becoming a sweat box.

Eli, thats what i was thinking. The cpu will be holding me back now. Lol

Hmmm. PSU will have to be changed too eh?

I knew it would run one card, but I eventually want to go SLI and upgrade to an x58 board.

    Any suggestions for minimum wattage?

Put it this way, my 4870x2 fried and I bought a 460 GTX just for a filler card till I get whole new setup, and the 460 GTX is a fantastic card. In fact it performs BETTER in some games then my 4870x2. So yea, get it , get it, get it!!

And they overclock like champs, I can almost guarantee 800 mhz on the core.

So yea... GET IT GET IT GET!! IT!!!!

You should be able to get alittle more from that e5200 if your board is capable with something like 12.5 x 310 at 1.38-1.40v but some of them can do 320-330 which would be over 4Ghz and that is a Wolfdale C2D core and why it can overclock and shouldn't bottleneck the 460GTX..

    Yes, I know :)

I've pushed this CPU to it's max. That is, when I had my old board. It died and I had to replace it with a P5N-D because it was the best price option.

However, I can't push it anywhere near that high with this board due to temps. I'm fairly certain there is a huge offset, but at 3.8 ghz (1.45 vcore) it idles in the 80's. This board is notorious for temp offsets and running hotter than it should because the northbridge is so close to the CPU.

I ran it in prime95 for 5 minutes at 3.8 ghz, and came back and temps were reading 80 for both cores, and ASUS pc probe was reading 122C...i unplugged it..lmao

I have a 120mm rifle cooler with high concentration AS 5..shouldn't be doing that lol

If you haven't already, be sure to update the P5N-D bios... I had some problems going from 9800gtx+ --> 460gtx that where remedied by the update... for a while: now the same problem is occurring in one game only after a patch... damn "Unknown error on CMDre"!

Remember if you ever run SLI on the P5ND it will run like a SINGLE Card.
Even my CPU has a hard time feeding the cards properly.

I say SINGLE card because of coarse the P5N-D 775 is a 750I based unit..

Instead of having 2x16 lanes and or 32 lanes total in SLI, you only have 2x8 lanes 16 total on that board. So its running SLI at 8x8 vs 16 lanes for a single card.

I suggest you get the first card and upgrade that board later on down the road. Upgrade your BIOS if you haven't already to the 1401 bios and you should be happy with the result.

    My Cards are 01G-P3-1373-AR cards.

    Hi,
I have the KR version. Btw whats the difference? Is it just the warranty or is there any quality differences between the AR and KR?
