I have been using cards with blower style coolers in SLI for the last decade. Temps have always been great for me as the heats gets exhausted out the back of the case. But now it seems like blower style cards with radial fans have gone out of style and all cards except founders cards make use of axial fans which outputs the heat into your case. My question is to those of you with iCX 1080 TIs in SLI is how are your temps with your cards in an enclosed case? Anyone who went from blower cards to axial, have you noticed a difference in GPU temps? Does the top card run hotter now? Did your CPU temp rise because of the extra heat in the case?

I have 1080Ti SC Blacks in SLI. Hottest my top card got was peaking at 78c while playing ghost recon wildlands on stock fan curve. I now run a custom curve using Precision giving me from low to mid 70's. Depends on the game of course. Played Diablo 3 last night with my cards at about 35c or other games I'll see anywhere from mid 60's up to about 75c. I have 3 corsair (120mm if I remember right) fans at the front of my case on intake and a single fan at back for exhaust. Running those at about 65% so gets the hot air out pretty well. My CPU (i7 7700k) is on an EVGA CLC 280mm cooler. I'll see temps vary roughly from 55 to 65c no matter what game I'm playing. CPU Idle temps at about 25 to 30c. My top card can run a few degrees hotter at times but not a concern at all. I never hit 80c to this day no matter what I have done. Also when I game I don't run over clocks. I have an Acer Predator X34 that maxes at 100hz anyway so my Ti's get the job done at stock!

It really, really depends on your computer case and the case airflow.

As you undoubtedly know, any high end non-blower card NEEDS good air flow to exhaust the hot air out of the case, as the ACX/iCX cards don't do that. More than doubly so with multiple high end cards dumping 200+ Watts each into your case.

Again, it really depends on your case and the airflow.

I have a Lian Li PC D600 and it has 3x 120mm Noctua 2000PRM fans (on a controller, so about 1500RPM most of the time, but can be turned up if needed) about 2-3 inches from the cards so they get great airflow. Pretty much the entire front of the case is those 3 fans. The case is really perfect for aircooling blower style cards. I just don't know if that much air intake is right for iCX cards. Maybe I'd be better off turning the 3 intake fans into exhaust fans if I bought 1080Tis, but I'd rather not have the hot air blowing out the front of the case. Or maybe I'd just have to stick to founders cards.

Here are some images of my case (this is an old setup, I no longer have these cards, etc..) but you get the idea of air flow.

I once forgot to turn on the three 200mm fans as intake that I've got on the side of my Fulmo GT case and my AIO water cooled 1080 Ti GPU temp rose 10C hotter than usual. I had two 140mm fans up top as exhaust at the time, a 120mm as intake above the rear IO, and a 200mm fan in front as intake.

Prior to that I had SLI 780 Tis, and SLI 780 Ti Classifieds. They had about two to three inches of spacing between them, and the top card always ran about 10C hotter even with similar massive airflow. I got it to drop a couple of C by installing that third fan so that it blew in between the cards. For my case, increased airflow from the front to the rear didn't have as much of an effect as a massive amount of intake from the side. A 1080 Ti SLI setup would likely show similar results.

Your case could be different as my Fulmo GT is really open with a lot of little and big breather holes everywhere.

Right now with blower cards and space between them each card runs at about the same temp. I'm just thinking if I switched to iCX cards temps might get worse with my case.

Likely the top card will run hotter as is typical for ACX/iCX style coolers - but there's only one way to know for sure.

lol yeah.. I dunno. I don't think I can bring myself just to buy them and hope for the best. I'd actually rather stick to founders cards as I know the blower style coolers work really well in my case, my temps are actually great contrary to other people's experiences. But #1 they don't seem to be in stock anywhere or even for sale any more. And #2 I need a Dual Link DVI port and the founders cards don't have DVI ports.

I miss the days reference cards. It seems like you can only get the ACX style cards now.

Havent had to much time yet with my 1080 Ti's as they came in late. Max temp is 55'C in World of Warships so far. Max temps in Ghost Recon Wildlands for me is 68'C.

I have the ICX Cooler, just not the sensors on my SC Black Edition. Aggressive fan profile with max fan @ 60'C

Sounds like you need a bog standard 1080. They have a blower fan with a DVI port. Nvidia then removed the DVI from the Ti in need of the extra room for the blower style cooling.

Shame you don't live in the UK. you could have had my second brand new 1080Ti which I haven't opened for... reasons.

Honestly that's pretty damn impressive. It's really hot where I am but I'm still hitting temp limits on a fe 1080 ti at stock settings. Crazy you're able keep it cool in SLI with the non-reference cooler

Wind flow hurts most. I got high temps in my old specs. (reach 77c)
Upgrade my gear from Z97 to Z270 which adding two slots spacing between GPUs.
And upgrade fans from down below.(I think this is the most important to increase air flow)
Put the hotter card with a higher voltage as the second card.
Add case Speedfan curves and PrecisionX curves for GPU temps

The top card temps rarely reach 70c expect Mass Effect Andromeda. This game is crazy, using more than 32GB committed memory and almost 11GB GPU memory and 110% GPU power in 4K.

In GTA V with 1.5 upscaling and 8XMSAA, top card temp is 65 at most.
