Hi, hoping I can get some good tips on tweaking my setup to maximize SLI performance for both benchmarks and gaming. I do understand the current state of SLI, but obviously quite a few people have figured out how to manipulate some settings to have great in game and benchmark improvements. I have been researching some things I can do, but am unsuccessful.

My setup is:
AsRock z270 Taichi
7700k @5.1 w/4.7 cache
1.404 max vcore under AVX, AVX offset is 0
3600mhz 1.38 16, 18, 18, 36, 2t
Samsung 950 EVO PRO 500gb
EVGA FTW 2 1080
EVGA FTW 1080

Before I got the FTW 2, my FTW would do 2150/5800 no problem. Now, with both of them, I can barely manage +90/0.

Firestrike score is 23292
Superposition 1080p extreme 8531
Timeapy won't complete
Catzilla doesn't seem to use both cards
Doom 2016, no increase
BF1, no increase

NVCP is set to max performance, Vsync off, power mode is prefer max perf

W10 power plan is PCIe link state off, power savers all on, max CPU 100%, min CPU 0%

My clock is 100% stable w/a fresh Conductonaut delid.

GPU temps, are kinda high, #1 hits mid 70s, #2 never goes over 62. I haven't quite figures out how to build a power/fan curve in MSI AB.

I know this is a lot, but I'm hoping someone who's walked this road can give me some solid info.

Thank you.

You definitely had a frame rate limiter enabled while you ran the fire strike test as both graphics tests max out at 141 fps.

Looks like your FTW 2 is slowing down your FTW when in SLI. In sli clocks are limited to the slowest cards clocks.

What error are you getting in time spy? Are you able to pass time spy with default gpu clocks? If no, time to reset your cpu back to default for testing.

Are you using the new high bandwidth SLI bridge? That actually does help with Pascal.

Superposition doesn't use SLI at the moment, unless you mod your Nvidia profile - http://www.overclock.net/t/1627726/unigine-superposition-benchmark-now-available-for-download/230#post_26038574

For Doom, likely Vulkan still doesn't support SLI still, yet OpenGL does.

Your GPU temps are awesome for air cooled cards in SLI. Mid 70C on the top card? That's really good.

Here's a guide for using the frequency / voltage curve overclocking that Pascal can use - http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/geforce-gtx-1080-overclocking-guide-with-afterburner-4-3,2.html

And I agree with Sajin - do you have Vsync or Gsync turned on? Turn them off and run Firestrike again.

Thanks for the info. Yes, using Asrock's bundled HB bridge. I did download the Nvidia profile from that thread for SLI. It's still meh. No way should a single 1080ti be stronger than 1080s in SLI.

SLI scaling is never 100% except for a couple of benchmarks, and superposition doesn't officially support SLI. Typically a 60% increase over a single card is considered a good increase. That's the reason why I stopped running desktop SLI starting with the 980 Ti - it was too frustrating, at least for me.

If it makes you feel better, my laptop 1070s in SLI get 7220 with superposition 1080P extreme - 15% slower than your 1080s, which is exactly as expected (mobile 10 series cards being essentially desktop cards with slightly lowered TDP, but very close performance). Oh, and my 1080 Ti actually only gets 6183 in that same test (and it's overclocked to 2063/12000).

    Lol, you're scary good.

Yeah, so I can't figure it out. In NVCP I have Vsync set to off. I can't figure out anywhere else where this might be. Maybe Precision XOC? I have a freesync, AOC AGON 27" 144hz qhd.

That really. Sucks that the FTW 2 is slower than the FTW. :(

I don't recall an error. I'll have to look.

For the Timespy crash, have you tried deleting it and redownloading, or even tried verifying the files?

I also experienced it crashing before it even got to into the 3D portion of the benchmark, and I had to back down on my CPU OC to get it to run.

It crashes in random areas. Sometimes it won't load, sometimes it crashes in the demo, sometimes in the tests.

I suggest setting the CPU back to stock and test it out - if it doesn't crash, you need to dial in a more stable OC.

If it still crashes, try testing each GPU out by itself. The new one might have an issue, or perhaps your PSU is struggling to feed everything enough power.

Do you have vertical sync disabled globally inside the nvidia control panel? Yes, make sure precision xoc has its frame rate limiter disabled. Have you messed with your 3dmark sli profile using nvidia inspector?

I'll give it a shot, but it passes OCCT for 6hrs and RB for 8, so, I kinda doubt it's the problem. PSU is only hitting just under 600 watts at full steam. I'll check the clock, and GPU.

Vsync is set to off, globally.

    I'll check PxOC.

Funny thing with Nvidia inspector, the profile inspector will not run for me. When NvIn loads, I click on the symbol next to the driver version and I get a thinking wheel for a few seconds and it doesn't load. The standalone profile inspector won't load either. I have tried multiple downloads, different versions, different locations, clean driver install; it won't run on my system. Bitdefender blocking?

Sounds like your cpu overclock is causing apps to not load correctly. When doing a clean install of the drivers did you use ddu?

    I'll try stock clocks.

    No ddu.

    I'll dl and try again.

Returned BIOS to stock, still won't run.
Turned off framerate target in PxOC, still won't run.
Disabled SLI, still won't run. My original card got moved down a slot, the new one is now the primary card, since I set up SLI. Could it be the card? This crash only happens, so far, with Timespy.

Thanks, but I don't think so. If you go back and look at my results, pre SLI, I could run Timespy. I have an AOC AGON AG271QX, which works flawlessly everywhere else.

Tomorrow I will first do a ddu install of the current Nvidia drivers and retest. Then, if it still poops, I'll put my FTW back in slot 1 and retest. If it works, I'll put the new FTW 2 in slot 1 and try. I'm sure one of those scenarios will result in the resolution needed. BTW Nvidia Inspector still isn't working right for me, on base clocks. I'm hoping it's just a broken driver. Should I include a reinstall of DX12?

My error is DXGI call IDXGIFactory2::CreateSwapChainForHwnf failed (142213121)

    https://steamcommunity.co.../0/154644928860337702/

Update, disabled Shadow play and the bench ran full stop. Re-enableing OC and SLI to retest.

    12653, w/ stock gpu clocks.

Okay, that seems to be resolved. Now, why can't I run Nvidia Inspector properly? Do I need to? Will it help me make custom profiles for my games?

You don't need to run nvidia inspector. I was just wondering if you used it to tweak any of your profiles.

No, but could it be helpful? I mean, there is obviously a way to force and refine SLI. How are all the pros doing it?

    Yeah, see.

Can you teach me how to use it if I can make it run?

Any errors listed inside the windows event viewer showing that the nvidia inspector profiler failed to load?
