Deus Ex Mankind Divided, power usage was low because I used Gyazo cause I don't think OSD shows up in steam screenshots. Core starts from 2100 but quickly plateaus to 2088 because of thermal reasons (I think) and I feel like there is a little bit more headroom on memory clock. Funny thing is my 1070 isn't even SC, it is the regular ACX model! Just moved the memory clock slider a little bit more and this is the result. I don't think further OC is necessary at all though I am still curious. I also noticed that when the GPU temperature rises above 50C to 51C my 2100 to 2088 plateau happens.

How do you know when/if the card is stable? I did a pretest bench of heaven and it did fine obv. Watched Jayz2Cents video on Pascal overclocking, did what he did in the video and got mine to run at 216x, +500 on memory during the Heaven benchmark while also running Prime95 small fft bench. Gpu never went over 40c, while the CPU was low 60's, never over 65. I'd say this was a really good overclocking but don't know if it's stable. It never crashed or bugged out. Also, my precision or afterburner shows the card at like 240hz idle, not the default SC specs of 15xx like it came from factory. I hit the kboost button in precision and it clocks to 1999mhz, runs fine in benching and then i added +100 clock, +500 memory with prime 95, no problem. How do I get this to work? Feels like what I'm doing isn't right? My numbers seem amazing compared to what others are getting?? I think my last play around overclocking got mine to 2164 no issues, could probably go higher, and this was with default presets in precision. Didn't raise the power limit, didn't touch voltage bar or anything. I hit kboost, added my +100/+500 and ran heaven, no problem. Suggestions? I rarely overclock, I'm a noob haha. I use a 1070 SC black edition with a EK FC nickel block, and a i7 6700k with EK evo full nickel block. Everything is default clocks

When overclocking the 1070SC and the 1070FTW which one stays cooler and quieter...in general?

I'm not 100% on this but I think the FTW models should be at least cooler because of slightly bigger ACX fans. I feel like ACX 3.0 is very quiet even with an aggressive fan curve.

Is hitting the power limit bad during a test run on Heaven? I've got a pretty stable run at 2101Mhz and no memory overclock. As soon as I bump the memory up and start heaven, the power limit hits 1 pretty much the whole benchmark, or at least at the beginning of every scene, then it settles back down. Throttling the card to 2088mhz, then back up to 2101. I say this is a pretty good OC, but not being able to touch the memory bothers me. Unless yall hit the power limit as well and just bump the memory till the screen artifacts??

So after getting curious to what my card does 100% default, i ran Heaven and it hits the power limit. I adjust the voltage slider to 100% and the power/temp limit to 112%/91c and reran the heaven benchmark, yet again, it hits the power limit. what the hell I guess everyone hits the limit and just overclocks untill the card artifacts or crashes, then just back it off till it stops producing those results? i dont get it rofl

It's downclocking due to the thermal design of the card's BIOS. No oddities here, my 1080GTX starts out at 2025mhz then seconds in will drop to 2000mhz in Heaven/Valley, eventually getting down to 1962mhz at its lowest(63C). My card's temp never breaks 63-64C with the reference radial cooler. I've owned ACX cooled cards, and I've owned Radial cooled cards, my results have proven radial is better, with radial designs, the heat is pumped directly out the back of the PC case, and not up into the processor, or down onto the PSU........why people buy ACX cooled cards is beyond me. I owned 2x 770 SC ACXs, I never owned such a hot pair of cards since my 470 GTX, they were 670 GTX FTW replacements after one of the 2 fried out. I was super happy to be rid of the ACX cooled cards. If you want, you can try to bump up the temp max from 92C to a higher value. I prefer to focus Power Target thou, since core down-clocks are just there to safeguard the board and chip from degrading. I think a core clock of 1962mhz is damn fast, considering my 770's ran @ 1254mzh, 1962mhz is a huge leap! My Evga 1080 F|E is only able to run a stable +134mhz OC, which is 1987mhz in 3DMark(slightly different clocks in Valley/Heaven), if you are boosting to 1962-1950mhz, that's plenty fast for a 1070. There are luckier people out there of course, my friend hit the lotto with his EVGA 1070GTX, hes able to run a 2150mhz core stable on his 1070 F|E, which is very good luck for a $450 card, but remember 1070's run less SMX units, therefore less heat, so they're generally are able to run higher stable OC's on avg, than the full stack chips(TitanX/1080). This is my opinion on the matter, because I've owned several 470s/670s/770s, they've always OC'ed pretty beastly when compared to my XX80 cards and others in this forum.P.S. Don't bother changing or altering the voltage on your card, all it did to my 1080 is cause it to bench lower EVERY single time, I tried K-boost and K-boost doesn't lock the cores as it's suppose to, so it now has become a pointless program, the cores still down-clock due to thermal design limits and Bios settings. What Nvidia/Evga needs to do is release a updated version of the Bios's for all cards fixing the thermal down-clock, if K-Boost is enabled voltage should stay locked at 1.050 or w.e and lock the core at w.e set clock regardless of temps.....

I ran my card hard last night and mine never goes over 35 degrees, water-cooled off. It idles 24ish and CPU idles about the same. If it throttles because of temps or whatever, mine shouldn't at all. Yet it still hits the power limit and down clocks for some odd reason.

I know I'm well late to the party. I came here to see how far people can push it and honestly I thoughy my overclock was poor but apparently it's quite good.(should clarify I am I feed using a gtx1070 evga superclocked so it's not the black edition with a backplate. I'm also using msi afterburner as I find its more stable than X.o.c) I got my memory to 4586mhz and the core to 2112mhz and it's stable in furmark stress test. I aim to keep my temps under 75c with the fans at around 65/70%. Im not at my PC so I can't post screenshots but I was quite disapointed with this until I read other peoples ability. What I will say is that I can get it higher if I'm not running stress tests. Games aren't as stressful as a stress test. If it crashes in a stress test try running a game, It might suprise you. If it artefacts in game then definitely turn the overclock down substantially.

FYI, no need OC because the GPU boost 3.0 will automatically hit 1999 MHz!

True but with my memory where it's at and my core at 2112 it keeps my fps up quite a bit. Very surprising what 113mhz can do lol

Sounds like a lot of cards are hitting at least 2050, and some over 2100. Looks good for the SC2, and hopefully for the FTW3 as well!

First off find your highest overclock that is stable in absolute every game and application, benchmark.
That is where to run it.
Second really start watching your benchmark scores. Run the same tests over and over at different settings and average the results. 3 and 5 run strings at each setting are a good start
You will notice there's a time where you will be losing performance actually. That's the 2nd part of your limikearn these frequencies and you'll enjoy stable ocs with real perf benefits over time.
Have fun. Dont worry too much or feel like you got a bad card or be upset. It's all down to luck honestly. Enjoy playing and learning as you go!

Really? I had my card at 2212mhz and it artefacts and the driver crahses in furmark but runs arma 3 online just fine. I don't actually play overwatch so I can't comment on that.
