Interesting info for everyone with Maxwell GPU(s).

From the Folding Forum:  Core 18 v4 (Windows/Linux)

by mpharrigan » Mon May 11, 2015

Hi all, We're rolling out a new version of Core 18 (GPU Core) for Linux and Windows. This release fixes performance issues with Nvidia "Maxwell" GPUs as long as you have up to date Nvidia drivers. Specifically, 347.xx and above (Windows), and 346.xx and above (Linux). It still works with older driver versions, just with degraded performance on Maxwell. There are still performance issues on AMD GPUs, so the restriction on AMD gpus will be kept in place.

Right now, we will not configure the client to automatically download v4 if you have v3. To get v4, you must manually delete any earlier versions of the core. When we're sure there won't be any issues, we'll cause clients to automatically upgrade to this version. [Note for linux: since there isn't an earlier version of x18, you will get v4 automatically].

Currently, there are restrictions against Maxwell GPUs receiving core 18 assignments. We'll be relaxing those restrictions throughout this week.

Thanks!

Edit:  I think it's time for me to upgrade my GTX660 Ti's to GTX970's...

Edit 2:  If you wonder where the Core is located or which Core18 version you have running, you can find that info in your Logfile (in the beginning when a (new) WU starts).
In general, there are two different locations where the Cores are stored (and used),  full FAH (no flag or Advanced flag) and Beta.

Anyone have numbers to report?  I'm assuming this is for beta flag.  I've been stuck on 15s all day using a variety of flags.

This is posted in the "Announcement-Pande Group" section of the Folding Forum, so this Core18 v4 is now released to full FAH (no flag or Advanced flag). Core18 v4 has been in Beta testing for a while (edit: Feb 24, first released for beta testing).

Well, that explains the 1.5mil PPD I'm suddenly getting on my pair of Titan Xs.

I can verify that a pair of 970s will get you 500k ppd and use less than 600w of electricity. A full on win/win!

My 980 is allegedly doing 450756 PPD at stock clocks 8% in on a 9128, up about 120K PPD.
(I don't fold 24/7 if my stats don't reflect this increase)

1.5 mil PPD on just two titan Xs?
I've getting 700k tops from my two GTX 980s, I expected Titan Xs to do better of course, but twice as much is a lot.

I don't think I've received any core 18s yet.  I wonder if running the old client is the cause?

On my 980 I only saw them if I used the Beta Flag or client-type = to beta
My default is client-type = to advanced but then you get stuck with LOTS of Core 15.
