Hello everyone. I'm looking to buy a new PSU and I was going to buy the 750w G3 but then I saw that EVGA was coming out with their new G1+ PSUs. Are they supposed to be better than the G3 or an upgrade to the G1 series?

The difference i see between G3 and G1+ are these:
G1+ is a bit shorter in length
    G1+ has a135mm fan instead of 130mm
G1+ Some of the cables are shorter

The G3 model also has an Eco mode but otherwise the differences are what MSIM has posted.

The G3 has the rounded-sheathed cables and the G1 has the flat cables also.
From what I can tell the G1 series are FSP units and the G3 are the Superflower Leadex series--which are just incredibly impressive.
They'll both do the job, but if it was me I'd get the G3 unit.

I have a G3 and highly recommend it.  Some additional differences to consider:

    1) G3 is newest generation/version (G1 is older design)
    2) G3 has hydraulic dynamic bearings versus G1 double ball bearings:  so G3 is quieter and more reliable/has more longevity
    3) G3 has 130 mm fan versus G1 135 mm fan:  again makes the G3 quieter
    4) G3 is single-rail 12V versus G1 is multi-rail (I prefer single-rail ... but not as big of an issue/difference nowadays)
    5) G3 is 1/2 lbs lighter
    6) Personally, I think the G3 looks nicer ... if that matters to you

So I picked G3 for all these reasons ... in particular with Eco mode plus hydraulic bearings plus smaller fan ... it performs realiably but is quieter (cool and quiet are key factors I've built into my rig).

    Hope this helps.

G1 is the older version, the G1+ is the new version.

While you're speaking about a wrong topic, you know a few things about bearing. I would like to ask you if there's any difference betwen the "Fluid Dynamic Bearings" of the G1+ and the "Hydraulic Dynamic Bearings" of the G3.

The fan might be quieter or last a bit longer. I own EVGA 750w P2 (80Plus Platinum), i have yet to hear my fan kick on.

MSim ... good catch ... I missed the “+” completely. I either need more sleep or more coffee :) ... (I’m getting more coffee :D )

Christoskyr, fluid dynamic and hydraulic dynamic bearings are pretty much the same kind of bearing. So both the G1+ and G3 should be comparably quiet and have comparable longevity. I don’t know which is quieter. G1+ is “whisper quiet” versus G3 is “ultra quiet”.

So, comparing G1+ to G3, the specs are nearly identical. Main differences are:
    1) G3 is smaller than G1+ (For 750W model the G3 is 20mm smaller than G1+)
    2) G3 is lighter than G1+ (For 750W model the G3 is 1.4 lbs lighter than G1+)
    3) G3 has ECO mode; looks like G1+ does not
    4) # of modular plugs is slightly different

Besides that, everything else is pretty much the same.

So before this G3 was the newest and the best in the Gold line right? And G1+ came along just to confuse us? Newest but might not be the best? Maybe they found a way to manufacture PSUs for cheaper but didn't want a new line that is both better and cheaper than G3?... I'm just wild guessing now

Gold is Gold, Platinum is platinum. Etc. So no, there's not a difference if they are compared that way.

Best way to think of the G1+ is as an upgraded/better version of the G1. And G3 is still G3 (with some additional/nicer features like Eco mode, plus more compact form factor, and I think nicer cables). Another way to think of it is G3 is a “Corvette” and G1+ is a “Camaro”. Both are quality.

Thanks for pointing that out.  To clarify, the G3 series is considered the top of the line of our Gold-rated power supplies.

    Yes they are identical. I saw the specs that G3 had 6 x 8-pin (6+2) PCIe compare to G1 : 4 x 8-pin (6+2) PCIe. So G3 had 2 more plugs for PCIe. Price right now is G3: $99 and G1: $69.

I’ve had terrible luck with the 750 G3’s purchased 13, 4 failed within one month.
Not only did they fail they destroyed 2 motherboards and 3 hard drives.
Been building computers for 30 years never seen anything like it.

Came here looking for the real differences between the EVGA G3 and G1+ series. But I see a lot of posters are confusing the G1+ with the older G1 (non-plus).
