I would love to see future models of GPU's to come with a big fat heatsink and the ability to mount your own pair of 120mm fans. Would much rather have the thermal performance and sound signature from a good pair of 120mm fans. Now that doesn't mean to make proprietary 120mm fans EVGA ! lol.

I have a feeling that this might happen at some point, especially once moore’s Law dies and we get locked into 7nm~5nm processes. We might even see socketed boards and users exchanging the GPU, installing custom heat sinks and coolers!

its called customizing your fans....it can be done, but it will affect the warranty though.

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

Take the shroud off of the 20Xx series cards, since it is only a few screw holding it on, remove the stock fans, zip tie the two noctua fans on GENTLY so you don’t damage anything.

Don’t tighten them down tight, or you risk bending the fins. You may have to angle the zip ties in an odd way to miss the pci bracket, but it will work until you find a better solution.

Ther 120mm fan Idea me like:

The GPU fan never did turn of. Even under 25 degree c.
So i installed a temp sensor and conencted it to the 120 mm fan.
    silent-mode activated :)

Oh, I guess I would of used the word replace instead of "customize". Ya I've seen it done before on a asus 1080 that looked really clean, but it just so happened the heatsinks shape was accommodating to the 2 120mm fans via zip ties. I couldn't tell how he mounted it at first. Of course on the other spectrum it can look really ghetto. Judging from that 3d rendering of the FTW 3 2080ti - it looks like there are oddly cut out places in the heatsink. So I don't know how accommodating the new heatsinks will be to that route. Ill be getting my card tomorrow though and will probably check it out depending on how bad the stock fan problems are for me.

Give it a look and see what you can do. Take your time and plane ahead. I can try to draw up some idea tomorrow and send them over if it would help, but I don’t think it will be very hard at all.
