Hey all!!! I am trying not to bore you to death with a change in cases for the Full Tower I had on here a few months ago. We changed case designs (again) for the third time. We finally hit the nail on the head and got it right.

Previous designs were ok at best, but hard to reach components. This desgin works great having access to everything!! I decided to show the almost completed pic's instead of a build log. It contains all the same components as the Full Tower did.

Enjoy the pic's and than you for looking!!!

Only thing left is to tidy up the cables in the rad compartment and add the red cathodes behind the etched window.

Looks great. If you ran into any problems during the build can you list those and what you did to over come them?

    Thank you!!!

No problems with this design at all and everything went smoothly with access to everything. The previous "Tower" designs were a headache due to the access, or should I say, "no access" to the rads or reservoirs. Also, in the tower design it really became tough to access the HD's and optical drives as well.

This design is what I should of went with from the start....guess I had a lot to learn!!!

Thank you guy's for all your kind comments!!! And thank you for the blue ribbon!!!

Finally finished with this build and have one more case to build for a forum member. It's a micro design and I will be making it for the member free of charge as this person displayed a random act of kindness here on the forums!!! Look out for the case build log coming soon.

Also, I will be displaying two different designs in another thread. I would like the forum members to choose which design they like the best and I will start the build some time in April....this one will be given away free to a forum member...details to come in another thread!!!

how'd you do that right side panel? it looks sweeeeet!!

It's made of 1/4" clear cast acrylic, one side was painted black with Krylon Fusion spray paint, then laser etched through the paint with the graphic.

Awesome case! I am planning a custom acrylic case and was wondering what would be a good acrylic thickness to use? thanks!

For larger cases I use 3/8" thick for the case and 1/4" for the side windows. For small form factor cases I use 1/4" for the case and 1/8" for the windows.

I dont know of any cnc/laser cutters around where i live.. Would it be okay to just use a dremel or air cutting wheel to cut the acrylic?

I started using a fine tooth jig saw on the first two cases I built. Just need to clamp down the piece to a work bench/table and take it slow. If you use a dremel it will most likely melt while you cut.

I was thinking about the jigsaw too. Also, what size/type of screws should I use to hold the pieces together? Sorry to ask so many questions, I'm just new to this whole case building thing and I am hoping to make things go as smoothly as possible. Thanks for all of your help.

Not a problem, always glad to help!!! Ask any questions you like.

When using 3/8" thick acrylic I use 1 1/8" long at 6-32 threaded machine screws and 6-32 hex nuts. Click the link below to see up close how the panels are held together. As you see there are slots the laser cuts to insert the hex nut, then I manualy drill through the edge of the acrylic to form a shaft to the hex nut for the screw (in the frame of the case) Each panel has an adjacent screw hole so it can be mounted.

One way to hold together a case is to use aluminum angle. 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/16" thick or you could go 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/8" thick. I used it to make previous cases and it's pretty cheap stuff.

Would it be possible to cut the slots for the hex nut manually? I really don't like the look of the aluminum angles.

edit: so you're saying, to make a frame with the aluminum angle, then hang the acrylic on that? I will be using black acrylic anyway so you really wouldn't be able to see the angle much anyway.
