Hello eVGA-ers!

I figured it was about time to post some pictures of my build I did last spring/summer that I've continuously been working on (adding fans, cooling, learning to overclocking, etc.). This year, I've added a GTX570 when my eVGA 8800gt finally died out on me (served me a good 5/6 years..) and now I've swapped out PSUs!

To start, I previously had purchased the TX850 Corsair unit and it made things a little messy (here's to show):
Had all of the many cables ran through the bottom, and the only convenient place to put them was to cram them below my hard-drive in the front:

So I ordered a HX850 (after reading countless reviews for months.. ) and I'm in the process of building a family member a new box, so I'm going to "hand-me-down" the TX850 unit. Good timing, right?  I got this sucker in last week in the mail, and today finally got around to installing it. I yanked out all the TX unit's cabling:

And started workin' on re-cabling the HX unit:

Of course.. I've had some help along the way!

I'll post some more pictures later on tomorrow once I get workin' on it some more, I've got a few pics of the 570 posted in MOD Rigs, but I'll grab a couple more to post here. Thanks for readin' if ya made it this far!

    Paint the inside!
It just takes a can of spray paint and some masking paper and tape, You can get that stuff at home depot for 10 bucks.

Make sure the cat is not inside of the case when you turn it on. Nothing worse than the smell of burnt kitty, trust me - I know .

    Re:"Slowly but Surely" - my x58 Build Wednesday, May 25, 2011 3:23 PM (permalink)
Well I got everything swapped and rerouted last night, ran into some "problems" from the cables either being super stiff ( my mainboard cable feels like its causing pressure on the board, I hope not though ) to my 8-pin connector being too short! I can't reroute it under-and-up-and-over like my TX's 8 pin, I can't hide it at all! Cable is too short :

Old TX Cable routed behind the mobo and up and over:

But thew new HX one is too short!  And I hate that VREG HEATSINK! Its pretty much touching that fan

Its just terribly in the way, and I can't stretch or bend it anymore to wrap it around like the old one - TRUST me, I tried! Any suggestions for hiding this thing? But anyway, if you check my OP - all those cables crammed through the bottom, that got cleaned up a bit:

    None-stretchy cables! Grr.

Cleaned up the bottom, a little bit..

All packed up and runnin again:

So I'm left with a few questions,
    1) Is there any way to hide that 8 pin, or is the cable too short and I'll just have to deal with it hanging in the middle of my case? (I'd rather not, but.. if there's no alternative).
    2) Side case fan routing (as seen in the last picture). Is there any way to hide those as well? I'm assuming not unless I do some major rerouting or move the fans down a space and route the cables around.

Seen so many amazing cases, with much more packed in them on these boards, was hoping to clean up my case (which I did) and make it almost wire-free since I'm not using as much hardware as some others, but still left with some thinking to do for re-routing issues.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

Pull the video card out, and run the 8 pin under the card, behind the slot. See how your audio cable is? Run it straight up from there, and seat the GPU over it, and it'll stay there.

You can definitely get an extension for your 8-pin. I use two of them for my E760 classified.

As for the the case fan wires. Perhaps get some black cable sleeving. From there just zip tie the wires to the bottom of the fans and run them off to the side of the sidepanel and down to the bottom of the case and into the PSU connectors.

i know i need better wireing too but then again, my 8 pin could reach up top of the tower and down to my motherboard..
    try if urs can too..

nice build though :).. exept the haf 932 aren't pretty in gray :P

The HAF has a bottom vent for the PSU right? just flip the psu over, system will run cooler with the psu not being part of the case airflow, and should get you the extra inches needed to route behind the back

as u see in my build, the psu is to be mounted with fan downside.. :).. so unless his psu is to be mounted the other way around than normal psu's then he should flip it over..

better temps, and as cj3waker says, it should give a inch or 2 to reach :)

Interesting. I thought about extensions, but haven't had the chance to look up where to buy some (hoping my Microcenter will have some). I also wanted to paint my case AFTER I had swapped everything into it and didn't want to pull everything back out to spray it, but I've been itchin' to do it.

Wouldn't the PSU with the fan "down" be pulling air in and then out the back right - pulling all that dust up from the bottom of my desk - but I guess it's going to pull dust from everywhere else too. Does it really drop case temps a little bit? I'm not sure if it'd warrant enough inches to stretch the cable but I'm willing to try that.

I'll try swapping it around tonight, maybe I can just flip it without having to unhook everything again

from the the look of ur cooler, and beeing the case is so open i dunno.. but if u imagine a more closed case, yea it will give better temps :)..

try turning it around and see if u get the cable long enough to take ur 8-pin at the back of the motherboard and out top :)

I'll try flipping it, fan down, 180 degrees once I get home late tonight and see if it'll move. I doubt it will, because it barely made it to the opening the way it is now, but i'll try it cause that 8pin just hanging in the middle is really buggin me!

What kinda steps did you do to paint it black? I saw the pictures but no explanation. : )
Did you do a Black matte "color" or something else? Painters tape along the sides then light coat the inside? And how many coats did it take to get your finished color?

Thanks for the additional info, I'll post up if I can get that 8 pin wrapped around tonight.

    1.  Like Halo said, Run the cable behind the graphics card

    2.  Make or buy an extension cable and route it through the bottom with the rest of the PSU cables and come out the top.

That case should have come with a 8pin extension cable... The two i've bought in the last year did anyway... It was in the white box with zip ties, wheels, and some other stuff...

I bought some "flat black" paint spray and some low grit sand paper tonight on my work break, I'll be attempting to paint this weekend on my day off while the wife is at work! Should be fun, except for taking everything out and then back in

You should use matte or satin finsh....more durable and easier to dust and clean. Flat would make a good prime coat.

If you flip the PSU right side up the cable should reach.

As for the fans, I used one of these when I had 4 fans on the side of my HAF.

and remember to paint the inside only :).. it is easily scratched off, i painted my cd drive too but when i put it in most of the paint was scratched off cause it goes so tight :(.. but luckily you can't see it :)..
that does not mean you can't touch it without it beeing scratched ;).. but it creates a lot of tension when 2 metal objects move against each other..

but if ur only putting in ur hardware and then the side on nothing should happend :).. if you deside to paint the outside too , you should give it a clear coat.. when the clear coat is dry it is more durable :)..

and remember the most important part about painting.. give it time to dry! :).. a layer of paint should atleast have an hour before you put on one more..
and a layer of clear coat should dry in approx 24 hours :)..

I couldn't find any matte black at the Home Depot down the street from work, they had satin, gloss, and then "flat" black which I thought would be equivalent to the "matte" i've been reading about.

    Its the same, eh?

I used a satin finish on myself,
Here is a quick step-by-step on case painting.

    1. Remove parts that can be removed and easily reinstalled (fans, qouck release parts, expansion slot covers)
    2. With masking paper and tape completely cover everything that doesnt get painted.
    3. Skuff up the inside with a sanding pad (180grit will do)
    4. Remove any dust that may remain on surface to be painted
    Finally PAINT
Also be careful as not to apply to much paint as it will cause runs and sags
Two light coats will do the job fine.

Thanks everyone, I post some pics in my Mod Rigs (and hopefully in here) tomorrow sometime when I'm done, I'm just going to start "practicing" on the back panel of the case since its easiest!
