Looking to get a new graphics card for folding and light gaming (mostly Diablo III starting in a couple weeks ).

I've got 145 EVGA bucks stocked up and don't want to spend much of my own money. I don't need crazy PPD but would like just enough to net me my 10 bucks per month.

I've somewhat narrowed it down to a 550 Ti FPB up to a 560. Is going up to the 560 going to make that much of a difference in my folding or light gaming? While I would only have to pay $15 for the 560 after rebate, I wouldn't mind hanging on to some bucks either for a future Z77 Motherboard.

Thanks!

I'd go with the 560. My 550TI nets me about 9-11k PPD depending on the WU, I only purchased it primarily to be a power-efficient PPU to supplement the 580.

I've got the 550ti and with these fluctuating wu's I question that it alone will make the 10 bucks

Last month I gleaned 412,383 points which was both gpu and cpu
Right now the v7 client is telling me my gpu is earning 7056 ppd
    and my cpu 8310

To be safe get something better than the 550ti

When the good units come in though the 550 will meet the bucks

But atm mines clocked @ 1000MHz and only running @90% taking 25 hours to compete this unit (7643 (347, 0, 15)) for and estimated credit of 7718 points

    Hope that helps your decision

Thanks for the replies. As far as efficiency, how do the 560 and 550 Ti and 460 Superclocked compare?

I believe the 5 series are more efficient than the 4 series and that the 550 would use less power than the 560 but purely because it is less powerful

Here's a couple of pages to back it up and it looks like the 460 is better power wise than the 550 LOL

Think I'll just go with the 560. The extra cost is minimal for a better card. Never know when I might get into gaming more! Thanks for all the info. Any chance the price will go down in the next month or should I just pull the trigger now?

The prices have dropped recently but I don't know if they'll drop more unless more 6 series cards become available.

Waiting for price drops unless you know one is coming is a waste of time.

Here's my 550TI for comparison with the v7 client. Yeah, it really depends on the WU.

I think that ppd estimate of your 550 Ti is incorrect because it has only completed 2.6%. You need to let them get to at least 3% I believe

Yeah, something was up with the WU earlier, it stayed at around 16k PPD, until about 10 minutes into it, then an error, something about a File IO problem, but it got reassigned 8008, running around 6k PPD, 5min/24sec TPF

560 ti 2GB is the best value in all the way.

    Best value Purchase Price/PPD/Watt
    and
    gaming performance.
$234-$145Evga Bucks = $89 +postage.  Not bad value at all

    Or get a 560 ti from b-stock. 190 - 145 = $45

Shorter warranty but better overall price.

Edit: just noticed bstock is 1gb instead of 2. Fine for folding tho

I would tend to lean toward the B-Stock options for a 560Ti (~13K PPD) vs the 550 (~7K). BUT I think EVGA hasn't update the pricing on the B-Stock cards since before the GTX 680 arrived. I would say it's currently over priced, you can buy new for $200.

Newegg has the EVGA 01G-P3-1561-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti FPB (Fermi) 1GB GDDR5 HDCP PCI-E Video Card for a low $199.99 Free Shipping after rebate and Coupon Code: "EMCNENJ28" (Exp 5/7). Tax in CA, NJ, TN. [Compare Prices]

You might concern saving the EVGA bucks for a future motherboard and go to Ebay. I've add something I recently posted to assist on the Ebay pricing.

I used to recommend the GTS 450 for ~$60 on Ebay for ~10K PPD and uses one 6-pin PCI-E. But now the GTX 460 has drop too close to this price range not to go with it.
The GTX 460 is ~$80 on Ebay $100 for New with rebate ~13K - 16K PPD and uses two 6-pin PCI-E.
The GTX 580 is under $300 on Ebay for ~22K - 29K PPD and uses an 8-pin and 6-pin PCI-E.

Other thoughts EVGA has recently change there warranty program to transfer with cards vs the orginial owners only. This effects cards shipped after July 1, 2011.http://www.evga.com/articles/00671/

Bit-Tech also had a great reference artictle on this as well. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/gra...-for-folding/3

Went with the GTX 560. With many other expenses at the moment, I wasn't really in position to spend much of my own money, so $15 after rebate for a GTX 560 sounded great to me!

With Diablo 3 coming out shortly, I really needed to upgrade my 7300 LE now.

Thanks for all the advice everyone!
