Hi Forum,

my two year old mainboard NForce 680i SLI seems to make trouble now . . .
It started this morning, when nothing happend after i pushed the power button. I cleaned the computer, checked the components if they're shaky and somehow the computer started again when i pushed the powerbutton. But the monitor does'nt receive a signal. I reduced the components to the mininum : Mainboard, CPU (Intel Q6600), fans, and power - and realized that the mainboard does'nt make a sound at all when it starts ( i guess it should complain when the RAM is missing^^). The Onboard-LED shows sometimes "88" (no use) or "83" ( Write CMOS - Write all CMOS values back to RAM and clear screen (this also showed up, when the RAM was installed)).

Any ideas?

Thank you!
Greetings Cryt00n

Remove everything but the CPU, heatsink, 24 and 8 pin power connectors and check the code again. If you get F3/F6/68 add a stick of ram in the blue slot. You should get 7F. Add a graphics card and you should get 7F with video, hit F1 and you should get FF. Let us know if you do, or the configuration/code when things don't line up as I outlined.

    Thanks,

    Thanks for the quick response.

Now I also plugged the fans off, there's really just the two power connectors, the CPU and the heatsink. The Code is still "83". I realized that the little nVidia-fan on the mainbord doesn't work. Still dont hear a signal.

@XrayMan:  I tried it two times: First with the Jumper, second removing the battery as you explained at another issue. Should I try to remove it for a longer time?

@VistaHead: Yes, I'll try it immediately and tell you.

    Thanks for your support.

As long as the battery is out for about 10 minutes. Hopefully Vistas suggestion solves your problem. If not, I do believe it will be a bad Motherboard causing your problem.

I used the PSU of another PC (so it works) and i received the same results as with the usual PSU. But this PSU hadn't a 8-Pin connector, just a 4-pin (its an older PSU). I connected it with the right 4 pins -> the fan of the CPU worked, but is it possible, that this caused another problem? The LED-Code was "83" again.
