Hello as many of you know I just got my megahalem and it's now hooked up and good to go. I am trying to test how far I can overclock my Q9450 and right now I am running at 3.5 ghz with vcore at 1.3v (lowest I could get it to post into windows). I have tested this o/c a bit in vantage and temps appear to be very stable with cores 0 and 1 at 44 and 2 and 3 at 37. I am using core temp for all temperatures. So I decided to load up prime95 to test and make sure this thing would stay stable although I am new to prime95 which is why I need your help. When I try to start the test the last worker (on the 4th core) says "FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4". The other cores will continue to run but I want to know what's wrong with my 4th core. Is the core faulty? Is the o/c not matching something correctly? Any help would be appropriated as I am still a bit of a noob. Thanks for any help you can give me.

it means your overclock is not stable, you need to work on the ram and cpu setting more. which prime test are you running blend or small fft?

Blend, I can play with it a little bit, any guesses where to start?

whats all your current overclock setting and voltages, with 4 stick of ram it can be more of a hassle then vs 1 stick to get fully stable. you could try for 3.6 and run it link/sync at 800 or 3:2 at 1066. it may take you a while testing and adjusting to get it stable but thats all part of overclocking.

Ya I am just linking my ram because it's 1066 ram but my mobo runs it at 800. So this o/c isn't using it to it's full potential but I will deal with that later. Tinkering with it now, getting it closer the last core didn't fail right away so going to start running prime95 for atleast 30 min and see what happens.

So I got to where the image shows and as I was posting the picture on the thread my computer froze (no blue screen just everything froze). I have two questions. First why I was going to upload the picture in the first place. Do those temps seem normal? I am stressing the cores as you can see and my temps barely moved. Second if you guys have any recommendations on trying to get prime95 to run for a few hours without any freezing or tests failing. I will upload my bios settings in an edit in a sec. Voltages: CPU Core: 1.36250v CPU FSB: Auto Memory: 2.00v (manufacturers recommend 2.0-2.1) The last 7 are all auto. Everything in the CPU Configuration is auto. FSB - Memory Clock Mode: Linked FSB - Memory Ratio: Auto FSB (QDR), MHz: 1750 CPU Multiplier is 8x. If there's anything else you need post what you need and I'll respond back. EDIT: So far I've only ever had it freeze or blue screen while running prime95. On the settings I said it has frozen once while on prime 95 about 20 min in.

So killerg I am confused about one thing about the ram. At 1750 the ram mhz is in the 900s if I remember right so linked it would be above 800 at 3.6 and 3:2 it would also be above 1066 correct?

you need to change the multiplier to 9x then lync/sync with 1600fsb will be at 800mhz, you can also run it ay 3:2 which would then run it at stock speeds of 1066mhz. what are all you cuurent volts and setting, you have the fsb at auto but what does it show in the bois and what are the other units volts at. you should check out these guides http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=254 my bad, forgot to check what cpu you had, yea with a max multi of 8 that changes the math some.

So first things first my multiplier can't go to 9x... only 8 unless I'm missing something, the max says 8 and the minimum is 6. Maybe you were thinking I had a Kentsfield. If so I have to tell you that the Q9450 is a Yorkfield chip. I will try the recommended FSB etc. on the forum link that you linked tonight and get back with an update when I can.

Ok so I am doing the recommended voltages except FSB which is at 1.3v and the recommended o/c for 3.6 ghz on the post you linked me. I am however very concerned about my temps. Core 0 and 1 haven't moved since I put this new cooler on and 2 and 3 move from 37 to 46. I am concerned about 0 and 1 because they are ALWAYS at 44 C. Could my temp sensor be going out? Or is my megahalem and ocz freeze just that amazing and I'm worrying too much? EDIT: In the sensor test on Real Temp the last two cores go from 50 to 63 however the first two cores never move and stay at 56. Not sure if this helps but thought I'd post it to see if it helps.

try running small fft, it stresses the cpu mainly vs blend (ram and cpu). when you start it, it should ramp up and reach a steady temp and as the heatsink heatsoaks the temp should slowly increase.

Ya that's what the sensor test had me do is run small fft. As I said cores 0 and 1 didn't move a single degree during the whole test and the 2 and 3 cores went from about 37 to 46.

I would say that you would most likely have a stuck/bad sensor then. should still be under warranty

I have no idea under who... I got it from Microcenter about a year and a half ago I believe now and from what I was understanding from the guy who helped me buy everything, cpus were one of the things you couldn't return. If you can tell me who to talk to that would be awesome, if it was Evga or Newegg I would know what to but since it is Intel and Microcenter I'm sorta clueless. It is a little odd it's only since I switched the cooler. It did get pretty hot two times while I had the stock cooler on while I was waiting, that or it's like 44 C for a while it's just always been able to go up so maybe it was just coincidence that this is when it went out. EDIT: Or is the sensor on the mobo. Never broken one so I have no idea where the temp sensor is located and google was so not helpful.
