The problem might be the driver for the HDD, and it might be the bios for the MB, or your HDD is dieing.
Step 1. Get 2 spare HDDs
Step 2. Do startup repair from CD/DVD backup of your operating system
If step 2 fails, Step 3a. Is to use 1 of the HDDs to load OS onto. If you are using Win7 then you will need to call them to send you a new key.
Step 4a. Check for updates to drivers and bios
Step 5a. Try to recover data on failed HDD, reattach it, if not seen then use free recover software to do the job. Or send it to be recovered from pros.
If step 2 works, Step 3b. Is to use new HDD to create a backup image of your boot HDD, and backup the files too.
Step 4b. Check for updates to drivers and bios
Step 5b. If the old HDD continues having problems, remove it, and put in the HDD with backup image and backup files, and the blank HDD. Use the OS CD/DVD to do recovery and load image onto the blank HDD.
If you have Win7 you should have a backup image of your boot drive always. Will save you the hassle of requesting the new key to load on a new drive. After 90 days with Win7, it will also cost you money to get a new key (almost as much as buying a new Win7 home ed.).
