The BIOS support for the 32nm CPUs has been around since BIOS version 44, I don't think you will have a problem.

I recived a 762 from Tiger Direct less than a month ago, that still had the 620K BIOS, it would not run my 980, I obtained a New BIOS chip from E-BAY, ( took 3 days to get to me ) Chip was $8, and shipping was $5. I suspect EVGA would have sent me one for free, but it was easier for me, than starting a support ticket, creating a RMA, waiting for a response, haveing one sent, I just clicked twice and selected PayPal. then went to my mail box as usual. When your board arives look on the clam shell, the BIOS will be listed on a white sticker. or for $13, go ahead and order, if you don't need it you will have a backup. ( If you ordered from EVGA, I'm sure you will be fine and updated, otherwise it will depend on how long it's been sitting in a ware house) http://cgi.ebay.com/BIOS-Chip-EVGA-X58-Classified-4-Way-SLI-170-BL-E762-A1-/380107412460?pt=Motherboards&hash=item58802ad3ec

I ordered the board form tigerdirect and the reviews said that a BIOS update was necessary.. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5376741&csid=ITD&body=REVIEWS#tabs
@ Kmoore How did you go about replacing the chip? Is it anything like replacing a CPU?
On the link you provided, the second review dated Nov 30 is me. Look at the pic I posted above, there are ears on eather side of the clam shell, lift up, and the clam shell opens, look at the front of the clam shell there is an arrow. that arrow represents Pin 1 of your BIOS chip, there will be a dot on one corener of your bios chip, ( also representing pin one), line them up and close the clam shell, your done. On a side note if you list your BIOS # in your Sig, after you change it, if you ever forget what Bios you have all you have to do is look at any of your posts. You could also replace the white sticker on the clam Shell.

I would Call EVGA to check 1-888-881-EVGA ( 3842 ) ; The BIOS chip is the same, but the information stored on it would be diferent. Since they release individual BIOSES for boards at difrent times, I would say NO. remember your 762 has 2 NF200 chips, your 760 does not have any. so I know for sure that information would be difrent. If you could get ahold of JacobF he would know, but he is at CESD, or some trade show. The 760 may work good enough to get you booted, and then allow you to do the update, but not sure it would be worth the risk. You could however Boot a 760, with the correct chip, live change the chip withthe old 762 chip, flash the New BIOS, , shut down replace the 760 chip, and have the 762 loaded to the bios you just flashed, but again, for $13 and a few days wait, don't think I would go to the trouble. If you went to E-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/BIOS-Chip-EVGA-X58-Classified-4-Way-SLI-170-BL-E762-A1-/380107412460?pt=Motherboards&hash=item58802ad3ec And ordered tonight you might get the chip by wednesday, not sure when you would get your board. With the above link they sent me 762/77.

sounds like the live change is feasable, I would be doing it wish a usb boot drive, so if its a easy in out no matter what I have the good 760 bios chip if its being pulled out. I dunno may be worth a try.

The hooded doors have fingers attached to them when you open the door, the chip comes out, because the lower part of the door removes the presure that holds the chip in place. you just place the new chip in place and when you close the doors, the chip locks in place, you do not need any special tools, unless your old or have fat hands like me, In that case a magnafier, and a pair of twisers may help. UPDATE : Note if your system is mounted verticaly, when you open the clamshell the chip may fall out, IT's small and hard to find

now that is ingenious.i remember trying to extract a bios chip off a dfi expert, and actually took a little chip off the edge, but it still worked.

Well spoke with JacobF through evga tech support. We came down to the determination that a hot swap may be possible by booting the 760 if you have one into the boot menu then swapping out chips and flashing the bios, unfortuantly it did not work as it notices the bios is for a different part # than the board its in. It was worth a try, but no go. Jacob said he could send me a bios chip out with the updated bios on it, so I guess its just a waiting game. As it doesn't much matter as I found a short in my psu's 24pin modular cable. I'm sure corsair will take care of it. So i guess I'll be down for a few days.

620K was the original, it's not even on the list of available updates. L and N were the first two updates. They will probably send you 77, it's the latest, unless there is something in the works that I haven't heard about yet. Let us know if you get something beyond 77. The person EleSSaRBLS spoke to at EVGA would have the latest information. ( probably more than he can say )
