I have recently received the BLACK screen of death! I was happily playing some games on my new pc and then Windows crashed and when rebooting after the windows loading screen, post bios info, I don;t get a login screen, just the black sod. I am running the latest drivers for all cards/peripherals/latest bios etc. I was running Nvidia drivers 275.33 and everything was working nicely for a few days since I received the GTX580 and now this. So I have booted into safe mode and uninstalled the GTX Card. Used driver sweeper to clean old drivers and my machine then boots into Windows fine. So I proceeded to install the Nvidia driver from the driver disk that came with the card. Driver v266.58 rebooted and then the same black screen. I have since tried a system restore from safe mode to 4days previous, before I installed some latest drivers for usb and other components. done the clean and installed 266.58 again and still the black screen... Can anyone help please?

When you do the driver re-install, are you choosing "CUSTOM" install or "EXPRESS"? You want the "custom" install, with -only- a check box for "PhysX" and "Clean install" *installing the Nvidia HD audio drivers can cause the Black screen issues you are reporting.

I was installing everything yes. So now I am trying to remove all but 3dvision controller and update 1.3.5 won't uninstall from control panel. I'd like to remove everything before trying to install the driver as you recommended above. Should I try to manually remove these programs?

Yeah, I have a sticky post for BFBC2 http://forums.evga.com/fb.ashx?m=1106849 It shows the correct steps (with screenshots) to take, for getting the different components out before doing a clean install *I belive that 275.33 has the 3Dvision "included" in the display driver itself, as such it cannot be removed until the "display" driver is...

Thanks. I've got it working now using the 270.61 drivers. I am unable to remove Nvidia update however! Will keep looking for a way to get rid of that. Great guide btw mate. See you when BF3 is out!

rgr that. Be sure to use the "custom" install option, PhysX and Clean install -only- Also, my guide shows Ambient Occlusion set to "on" in the NVCP. This could certainly cause a crash if that feature is forced, but not supported by APB...

It wasn't the ambient occlusion and I don't think I changed that as... win7 wouldn't startup again, just kept repeating the bsod on load. I have since run ccleaner and driversweeper...deleted all nvidia folders and registry entries and got rid of all from the control panel (including the nvidia update). Installed 266.58 from the desktop, gfx and physx only and perform clean install. Reboot and after windows loading screen I get a black screen with 16 white lines down it... :( Is there another driver I should try?

Hmm Power down completly and turn off the PSU. Then hold down the on button to drain... Then : Check that your videocard is properly seated, and double check your power connections on the videocard -and- those same leads where they connect to your AX1200.. Reboot and try getting into safe mode. You dont by chance have Afterburner or Precision set to start at boot with an overclock punched in do you?

no I uninstalled precision a while back. I did actually try reseating the card this morning. I cleared the cmos too and set about turning off various onbaord devices (such as marvell storage contorller etc) in the bios...everything I could think of. I've read about increasing the voltage to the card within the bios?

I should mention I have modded the card with the accelero xtreme plus...but I've not read of anyone with these issues and they do seem software specific since I can boot into windows without problem when not running the nvidia driver.... my box for what its worth:

OK, Try a clean install of your driver of choice.. Custom, with -only- PhysX and Clean install checked... See if that works *there have been reports that Asus ROG software sometime can cause issues. I would certainly check the Asus site for your exact MB model and see if there is an update... wouldnt hurt to read over the fourms there either

Thanks dude.... Yes I am on their forums too! I've tried the latest 1805 beta bios for this board and that was a disaster so I'm on the 1409 bios which is the latest and most stable one.I've reset everything so no overclocking or any changes like that. Updated my ocz firmware to the latest and that got rid of a lot of bsod'ss....been quite a few little issues to clean up and this is the last one!!

Well none of the 3 latest drivers are working properly so I think a fresh install of windows 7 is on the cards. I will install the driver from the cd 266.58 with it and then go about installing the latest drivers for the other peripherals. 3rd install of win7 on this new build. EDIT: OK So a fresh install of Win7, only asus chipset and lan drivers installed. Stock driver from disk gives black screen. 270 driver gives the .sys bsod as above.... latest 275 driver gives black screen and eventual crash. Starting to think this is might be an Asus issue now...

That could very well cause that kind of problem. Disable that and test the system at STOCK

I really have no experience with 2600K systems... My guess would be, its not a bad card but rather a bios setting that needs adjusting. Try making a post in the P67 section.. there are users there who could make better suggestions. Good luck bro

I was having black screen issues as well with wow. I'd usually get 1 or 2 a day. Now I know how Maniac feels about this but it does seem that the OP has tried different drivers etc. My black screen issue has been resolved so far by upping my voltage from 1000(stock) to 1050. It's been 3 days without a black screen, but I'm still not convinced. After a week or more with no black screens i'll be satisified, so i'll keep ya'll posted. Out of curiosity, Alex, you should download MSI Afterburner and check to see what your card's voltage is. If it's under 1050 maybe upping it would help. Worth a shot if you've tried everything else before an RMA. Good luck

thanks man. I've got a post up in the asus rog forum so we'll see how that goes. i saw some peeps who got gtx590 cards and had this same issue and they got a new card and it worked so it may well be just a bad card. I'm hoping not cos it took ages to get here!
