Well blew out my 650w psu running bigadv on my dual quad xeon rig, I'll be down for awhile waiting for new psu to arrive. still gonna shoot for 1 mil by feb. 15th.

I really dislike hardware failures.

Here's some pix, I'll post some later of it running in the server chassis.

Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it all...and then some you don't want.

That sucks. I just started bigadv yesterday. I stopped folding on one GPU so as not to push the system too hard. Hope you get back up and folding soon.

What brand of PSU did you have? I prefer Corsair myself, never had a problem with their PSUs.

I hope the PSU did not take any other equipment out with it. I had two PSU's blow in one day last month so I sympathize. Good luck to you.

The psu that burned out was a generic...never again...I picked up a Corsair 850, at least with a 5 year warranty it must be a quality psu.

Got the bigadv running again so we'll see if I can complete it this time.

I was lucky that it didn't take out anything else.

I just want to start putting some real points on the board.

you get what you pay for with power supplies.  Corsair's are top notch, and with their customer support thrown in they are worth every dollar

I've heard that Corsair's customer support sux.  I contacted them once about a problem though and they were pretty good.

How long did you have them before they blew?

Well the 1100 watt PSU was brand new and lasted about 20 minutes powering rig 2 in my sig, the corsair 750tx was a few months older but it also could not handle the three GTX 285's and i7 at 4.2ghz and it also lasted about 20 minutes in rig 2 of my sig.

    Nice!

What do you use the board for?  Do you only fold with it, or do you have folding going on in the background?

Do you also do GPU folding or only CPU folding?

How efficient is the dual CPU design?  I assume there is some logistical overhead which hinders performance, but maybe not.

I use this setup for bigadv only, although I may put in a GTx260, however when folding on the gpu it will lower my bigadv ppd.

As far as overhead it seems okay, with 8gb ram and a slight software overclock I am getting almost 9000 ppd.

I added plenty of case fans, good airflow and the swiftech coolers are doing their job, my full load temps are 38-40c, I am really happy about that, ambient temp in my basement is 64F.

38-40c for the CPU?  That is really good.  I assume that is CPU temperature, not core temperature?

For comparison, my i7 gets ~3600PPD at 3.87GHz with three GPUs folding.  Of course, I am primarily interested in my GPU performance.
