Speedfan 4.42(latest) has smart disk built into this app. The online disk scan works best, has saved me twice on 2 hard drives.Give it a try it is free.

If you want a drive diagnostic program its usually best to use the one that your manufacturer provides.  All the drive manufacturers provide tools to do this.  Western Digital, Seagate, Samsung, Hitatchi, etc.

As far as repairs, I'm not sure what you are looking to repair on your drive.  If it's just s single drive and some data has gone corrupted, then there isn't much you can do to read it back.  The best option would probably be SpinRite which is designed to read data from magnetic disks in such ways that may be able to recover blocks which are unreadable by most other software.

Other than that, if your drive gets bad sectors, it's internal firmware is already designed to mark those sectors as bad and re-map them to a table of spare sectors at the end of the drive called reallocated sectors.  This is done internally inside the drive firmware and the operating system doesn't know this has happened and merely thinks that the new re-mapped sector is just the original sector.

I already checked out Samsung. Their tools ONLY support 32-Bit and not 64-Bit. I already tried to run the tools in compatibility mode to no avail. I am almost certain it's World of Warcraft causing the false positive. I ran Emsa yesterday and this is what I got. I am rerunning it today though.

Edit: What a joke! Spinrite can only be bought? I am not made of money. I would prefer something that's free and reliable.

Edit 2: Wow. Checked out the video for it. 90 bucks for what appears to be a over complicated piece of software truly is not worth it. Not to mention just for 100 gigs it takes 6 hours to check. I have a 1 terabyte drive. It could take a day or so to scan the whole thing if Spinrite runs THAT slow. So it seems like a waste of cash and time to me. I would rather buy a new drive for that price.

I just use CHKDSK.  From a Windows command prompt, enter the following command:

    chkdsk /r

If it asks to run at next reboot, enter Yes and reboot.  The scan will take a LONG time to run, but it works awesome.

I ran it yesterday with drive dismounted. Didn't find any errors. This is why I am starting to suspect it's WoW. I may reinstall the game from scratch after the second Emsa run IF it shows more corruption. As for my mini-rant on Spinrite. I am sure it's great but not worth it. Especially if say half way through the scan the drive dies anyways. So since I spent 75 bucks on my drive and that tool is 90 I would be out of 165 bucks total.

Spinrite is really designed as a data recovery tool, not a simple disk checker.  It's well worth it if it allows you to read valuable data off a drive that nothing else short of professional recovery services can read.
