Get 2 and build it yourself! Save yourself money this way, and building it will ensure that you know what you're doing, and will also allow you to tweak your rig so it performs at its best. This community is an incredible resource and all of the people are incredibly helpful...they can help you build it, and overclock the snot out of it so you have the best gaming experience possible.

Oh dude, build it yourself. The wife will thank you in the savings. It's not hard to build a pc. Plus building it yourself you get better warranties.

britrick40 Hey guys..some quick input needed. Am about to order my new computer and its main function will be 3d gaming. Atm i usually just play wow..but will venture out some now. With Cataclysm launching soon you'll prolly be playing alot of wow so I'd suggest only 1 GTX580 for now since I hear wow doesn't play well with a SLI setup. After the holidays, prices will most likely drop and you can get a second GTX580 if you decide to play other games. Good luck!

I would build it yourself and you only need 1 580 for now.. and if you want you can always throw another one in later.. FYI Intel core i7 950 is $199 at microcenter.. and i would also consider another type of HDD the one you picked only has a 16mb cache and is sata 2.0

i appreciate u guys trying to get me to build it to save my money..but even the wife laughed when i told her...so yeah not a route i wanna go. Like i said my real only dilemma was 1 or 2 cards....on the hdd front i originally went intel..but was told aboutthese corsairs r better. Was also told that sata 3 is not much better than 3 atm...but tbh i dont understand most of the jargon and setup requirements etc... hence i have been posting on several forums for like a month now..but only today did i find this place..

i am talking about the 500gb mechanical drive not the solid state drive.. the 500gb drive only has 16mb cache.. you want at least 32mb or better.. and i still stand by the fact that you should build it yourself.. we can give you a component list and walk you through it. it is very simple to setup your own rig and not only will you save a ton of money but you will have the satisfaction of knowing that YOU put it together.. Also, if your not confident in the abilty of any of the forum members (although most of us are extremely technically proficent) abillity to walk you through it, EVGA has the best technical support and customer service in the world so if you buy one of their motherboards and a graphics card they will walk you through the setup.

1 screen wont benefit too much with 2 unless you love the great looking games. Turning up the eye candy over the past few years (now that i finally can) reall is amazing, and that would benefit from 2 of them, but then you begin to have more than enough power for surround (and with monitors like THIS getting cheap, 3 monitors is just plain amazing)

If you can put lincoln logs together or ever played with legos, YOU CAN BUILD A PC! It's that easy these days, everything is plug and play. I could see not doing it if you like to put square pegs in round holes, but the fact that you're an adult, and have a wife means you know "what goes where". Hahaha Trust me...it's simple.

2 580's is overkill for a single monitor. Get the one and see how it runs....if needed get the 2nd later and for cheaper.

^^ yep. Say you will save $500-$700 or so building it yourself, and show her the Alienware custom build that matches (or nearly matches) what you will build. Most of the time, it is anywhere from 15-30% of the cost of a pre built one.

Which computer company is charging you for wiring the rig neatly? Thought that was a given. Go to Velocity Micro or Falcon Northwest a little more money but fantastic support and they don't charge you to be neat.

I think you're from the UK with your username and looking at cyberpower. By the way the i7-950 is great and bottlenecking really isn't an issue especially if you OC... I've attached a picture of the cart at Aria.co.uk if you spec out similar to what you chose the only parts missing are the keyboard and mouse from what I can see. That WCing kit from how they price things I'm doubting is anything special and is just for the CPU... the Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler is awesome and will sort you out. The rest in this spec is top notch, the Mushkin RAM is above whatever random crap they were loading you with! The PSU is also better... pretty much you get better, for less and this price is including the GTX 580 which I'm guessing your £2200 didn't include. So £2100 for pretty good components with specs better than the ones you specced out in places, and with good warranties! It's also a good company at Aria, you can also try out places like Scan and CCL but I'll be using Aria and hey they have the awesome Mushkin RAM. So yes you should believe what the others have said here building your own is better in many ways. Just remember to buy a Belkin surge protector from Amazon for like £15 the top performance ones. Also the Noctua cooler comes with Noctua's thermal paste which is great quality thermal paste, you can also contact FalconCMH on these forums about ICDiamond if you wanted to try that thermal paste instead. Wall of text over, buy and build your own it's win in every way. Pic edit as the attachment is fail ¬_¬ http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/4047/ariaspecs.jpg

I will suggest like everyone has.. build it yourself.. Everyone has said the perks of building it yourself as well.. so that already has been said.. If you are not willing to build it yourself.. you can buy the parts and have someone near you from this great forums build it.. trust me it'll save you cash. I was in your situation a few years ago and was gonna order a prebuild pc from one of the pc magazines ads and added everything and it costs a lot. And you a man.. men build stuff hahaha... About the gpu.. get one.. wow isn't really that gpu intensive.. so one will be good.. and since the 580 is a badass mama jamma you will pump enough pixels to that crazy 3d monitor like it was nothing.. 1 gpu.. build it yourself.. end of story.. and the money you save.. take the wife out or what ever you guys do.. be nice to her.. cause when you go bigger *sli or bigger monitor.. it'll be already set in stone. "oh honey.. you built the computer...it works.. wow... lets try a bigger screen.. wow honey you serious.. okay.. it's time for SLI.. haha..." Anyways. have fun. v1ral

Yer about WoW if you really are mainly playing WoW then going SLI will probably cause more problems than solutions... Hardware that'd be considered crap can run WoW at full tilt with the awful old engine in a 25 man raid without dropping below 60 fps and averaging about 120fps. People have that experience on gaming laptops and the GTX 580 is waaaayyyy above what any gaming laptop can achieve. You're way overpowered for WoW even for Cata and if you get bad performance it's likely to be WoW's fault lol. As far as other games go, you're gaming on a 1920x1080 screen in 3D so a GTX 580 will play fine and I'm guessing you wont be using glasses all the time for 3D. So yea you can just get another GTX 580 next year, wait for the next card and upgrade and sell this one or whatever else you've got choices. Don't underestimate the GTX 580 :P look for some reviews to see what I mean, WoW runs well on crap, and the GTX 580 runs top end games awesomely with just 1. If you want the second 580 then get it! That is a want and you by no means need it :P so the wife wont be happy if she knew xD

1/2 the fun in buying/owning a Gaming computer is putting one together, its really not that hard. When all my stuff came in from newegg, i got a 6 pack and had some fun! Im no "computer wiz" but i do know the basics. There's alot of info out there, as been said before, especially on this forum. alot of members that will help you out. If you have hands to plug a connector in, you can put a computer together,(no offense to those who have no hands by the way).

I only have one thing to add to all of this. When you build, which you should, be careful. Because, building can become additive. I built my first computer three years ago, now, my son and one of my daughters have their own custom built machine. Then you get the feeling you can make it run better and a little upgrade here and an upgrade there and you have the fever. MAN< IT IS SO MUCH FUN
