Ok guys I know many of you are going to say that I should just read the forums more, well after 20 something articles on the same issue I haven't been able to fix it. I just built myself a new computer. Core i5 750, 4 gigs g.skill ddr3 133mhz ram, 850 corsair psu, nvidia geforce gt220. I am running bios a71. I have Windows 7 x64. This recognizes all 4 gigs of my RAM but can only use 1.99 of it. My bios only recognizes 2040mb of it. I have: reseated cpu and cooler performed musical dimms tested each mem stick with memtest and in the slots have done the max memory uncheck have cleared bios so many times I can't count have done the memory remapping have upped the vtt voltage have manually set the ram freq. have manually set the ram voltage I don't know what to do now. I have lost 2 gigs of RAM 700mb of which is being dedicated to my 1 gig onboard memory graphics card. Total of 1760 megs of memory for the video card. If you guys can help it would be awesome. The cpu has scratches where it contacts the points and everything, and my cpu cooler is loose as people have said doing that may fix it. Any help guys would be awesome. Thanks.

Hello, Have you verified that you do not have any bent CPU pins? All the pins should be facing the same way bent at the same angle. Use a flashlight make sure the light reflects off the pin the same way from every angle. If you are using an aftermarket heatsink, be sure it's not too tight. Try just setting it on top, its own wait should be more than enough for testing purposes. Sometimes the heatsink can flex the board just enough that the CPU and pins don't make good contact. Sometimes loosening it won't do the trick and it just needs to be reseated. Make sure of course that your computer is lying flat so that your heatsink doesn't fall off. I've had people who try to stand the computer back up without the heatsink secured. Regards, Valerie M

Ok, ValerieM this is a Memory not found issue not a board that is not running because the CPU is not there. There is some memory but not all so the Memory pins must be in correct place. This is strange. I had the problem but making sure the CAS settings and the Vtt and Mem Stick DIMM Voltage were OK as you have done. I did the unplug the power cable from the chassis, removed the BIOS Battery and waited a couple of minutes and put the battery back in, power cable and the powered up and all was OK. Perhaps looking on Microsoft forum social.answers.microsoft.com would have this issue addressed. It does seem BIOS related, but i could be a Windows 7 issue not reading the BIOS correctly and a corrupt registry. If it is a corrupt registry, your only solution would be to do a complete reinstall of Windows 7 and all your apps. Sorry. Before you do that check in the "Standard BIOS section" I.E. the 1st BIOS screen and see what amount of memory is being reported. If it is the full 8 GB... then I would say clear disk (even a format from the install disk) bite the bullet.

Have you tried running msconfig/boot/Advanced options/ and made sure number of processors, and maximum memory are unchecked? Make sure you restart then run (windows key + r) msinfo32 and check to see what its showing you.

I have the same problem with my computer its running Vista x64 I had all the same problems as you and went through the same steps but never able to get it to run my full 8gb of ram. Currently the computer is showing that I have 8 installed physical memory. 3.99 total physical memory, 2.4gb available.

Not sure if this will help but I saw it in another forum. Is memory remapping enabled in the BIOS? Sometimes it's required in order for motherboards to see more than 4GB of RAM.

That's not quite correct, you can have bent pins and the system will still boot. I've dealt with this firsthand when I worked as a tech at one of Intel's hardware testing labs on the LGA775 stuff. Quite a few of those pins are actually grounds, but it's conceivable that some of the memory channel pins could be damaged and cause detection issues.

remove and reinstall your CPU heatsink. sometimes when the cpu is installed it "CAN" be slightly out of alignment. BUT more likely, if the cpu cooler is on VERY tightly, it can BOW/bend the socket area , causing poor contact between the cpu base and socket pins. Which is why I advise you to remove and reseat the cpu and cooler. Then, when installing the cooler, only tighten the cooler down slightly for testing purposes. I have had this experience firsthand...
