FYI for other WOW players that want to replace their old card with one of the new sweet GTX 460 SLI setups...

World of Warcraft does not support SLI, what that means = yeah it may or may not work, but it is not desiged or tested to work by Blizzard, so you are on your own.

Scouring the Bliz forums I have found some recommended settings (posted by a blue)

Vertical sync = off
Hardware curser = on
They also recommend smooth mouse = off (I don't have this setting)

I have Reduce Input Lag = off
And video quality set to "High"

With these settings I'm still only utilizing one card although my frames are between 40-70.

I had to learn the hard way as one card is just not being utilized, if you can prove me wrong I would love it

Try overclocking your CPU and see what happens.

gtx 470 here, i get 60 fps on ultra, but i got a 4ghz cpu overclock.

Kind of tired of saying this but wow is a cpu intensive game, the only good thing from the new cards is the dx 11 improvements in cataclysm.

Wow can run with full FPS on an 8800GTS

IT's not your lack of SLI that's holding you back. Most likely FSB/RAM/CPU speeds.

Thats a great point… here is my setup, I recently replaced my failed 9800 GX2 with the GTX 460 SLI setup, as that was the only change giving me lower FPS, I just assumed it was the cards.

overclock your CPU. You'll see better performance benefits from CPU upgrades rather than GPU in WoW

agree'd over clock your CPU a bit to 3.6 ghz that'll be the sweet spot for your CPU. You should see a considerable boost in FPS for WOW.

I play on ultra with shadows down to a notch above minimum.

This way i get around 50 fps flying around in northrend and dalaran. however when i turn the shadows up I see a FPS decrease of 10 FPS bare minimum. So definitely over clock your CPU and feed yourself more power!

Sweet, Thanks for the help! I'll OC and see what we get. If I fry the CPU, i'll replace with a Q9650, that should be the fastest processor my board can handle.

    Thanks again everyone!

WoW is also one of the few games that benefit from a high-performance network card. There's so much info flying around when you are near other players, like in a city or raid, that it actually hits the CPU pretty good using onboard NIC's.

One of the few cases that buying one of those "gamer" network cards is actually useful.

Definately OC your CPU. I'm at a stable 4.2 on air and with my 480 I don't get below ~100 FPS on Maxed out settings. I'm usually running in the 190-230 range.

TYSM!, you are right about that! I installed "latrix" and significantly noticed an improvement, I just ordered a network card. After the OC and network card install I'll post the results…

So over the weekend I overclocked from 2.4 to 3.0 and it dramatically increased frames.

I am now running the "Ultra" settings with frames above 74 most all the time and maxing out around 190.

The network card wont fit in the 780i as the video card covers the respective slot on the board.

Either way, if you want high frames in WoW, as they have suggested here, beef up the processor

Always best to post the rest of your spec's.

Most of "these" threads result in the bottleneck, or simply under "geared" (might as well speak in WoW terms) Processor.

Glad the o/c went well and your performance is a bit better.
