Hey everyone, new here and looking for some thoughts/suggestions. The heatsink fan on my mobo appears to be biting the dust (makes a ridiculous vibrating/rattling noise at higher rpm's) and am curious if how I have things setup right now if I even need the little dude?

Sorry in advance if I'm not posting links/pics properly.

The problematic/noisy fan in question (tucked away in that housing at the bottom with the EVGA X58 logo):
The heatsink (fan housing is hiding at the bottom):
And how I have it setup with a fan strapped to the side in addition:

Now are there specific specs I should be looking for/needing for this fan on the side if I was to disable the problematic fan or do I absolutely need something in that 'factory' location?

Thanks for any/all help. Not sure what my options are with EVGA themselves as this is a second hand mobo (I've had it for a little over 2 years myself now).

Edit: Doesn't look like my URL links are liked....so just the URL's are listed
Edit2: This really doesn't like URL's at all huh? Trying to find/think of another way to get them here as they're quite large files.
Edit3: Broken links but right-clicking and opening in new tab will bring up the imgur links

I have the same board. I removed the fan, and the side fan I have on my Antec 900, circulates enough air that the Northbridge temps stay in the low 40's even running at 4.2ghz. I'd remove the fan as it will allow more air to circulate through the fins versus having the fan and its housing installed. It's just two screws on top. If you contact EVGA support, http://www.evga.com/about/contactus/ they may still have a few in stock. It wont hurt to ask. You can use AIDA64 to monitor the temp. http://www.aida64.com/
Lastly, not being able to post links until you have a certain amount of posts, is an anti-spam feature of the forum.

Well that totally makes sense about the post amounts and links etc.

So I've gotten Aida64, and just going off the RPM's of each fan, I don't think using just the one strapped to the side of heatsink I have connected to the 4 prong CPU fan spot on the mobo would suffice in cooling it alone.

The NorthBridge fan (which seems to be the problematic one) is ranging from just under 4500 to 6500 RPM's, where as the one strapped to the heatsink is only at 1300 RPM's. This could of course also be a stupid assumption on my part considering the huge difference in the size between the two.

Off-topic question if anyone knows by chance, but is Aida64 limited to what it can monitor to what is directly connected to the mobo? Just as I have quite a few case fans that aren't represented in the reports as well.

Fan RPM isn't a good metric. The tiny fan running at 5000 RPM is only moving a fraction of the air the much larger fan is moving at 1300 RPM. What is the temperature of the Northbridge? The fan you're mounting on your CPU cooler probably isn't doing much to cool the Northbridge. Another thing, Have you considered getting an AIO water cooler for your CPU? Getting rid of that air cooler in your case would help your temps and allow more air flow to the VRM heatsink as well. As far as AIDA64, as with any software monitoring program, it can only display inputs to it. A 12v fan just plugged into power isn't sending an RPM signal anywhere.

I haven't tested it under any real strain yet (higher end gaming etc.) but it hovers between 63 and 67 celsius while doing some internet browsing with quite a few tabs open in chrome and netflix playing on the second monitor.
